The Deckmaker Series Empty
PostSubject: The Deckmaker Series   The Deckmaker Series EmptyFri Aug 08, 2014 2:27 pm

I'm thinking about doing a series of deckmaking topics on youtube.  I have a few ideas so far:

Which Glue?  Why?
Why do decks warp?
Drilling holes.
Why CNC molds are superior.
Veneer?

Edit: added topics and suggestions
Hydraulic press/clamps/vice?
Sanding and Laquer.
Customer service.
Gluelines and Concave.
How to: Make a Bad Deck.

Any questions you guys have to add to my list?

The drilling holes one would be great for me, because i use a bondo mold and I can never get my holes aligned correctly

Now I do wanna give some insight and knowledge about deck making but I won't be blatantly giving out 'secrets'. So no worries. For instance, the video on glue will show a few glues you can use and the pros and cons of each. They are all good, but it comes down to personal preference/cost/time/workability.

Graphics are sensitive, so I probably won't cover that. All I can say is trial and error and forking out some cash will be best when finding something that works.

I think this is a great idea. Some of the best deckmaking advice I found when learning was from the "How It's Made" videos, which usually don't have any instructions or words, but pretty much show the procedure start to finish.

Episode 1: Glue

The purpose was to inform one on the importance and practical application of various glues.  Notice I didn't say that their was one that was best, just many good glues for different scenarios.  That's what I want this series to be about.  This is not only for other deck makers but to give a perspective about what goes into deck making so that the customer can make an informed decision.  I wouldn't was anyone to buy a $100 deck based on the fact that it was made with some magical formulation.   wink

So glad to see youre spot on in this video and no bs!!! pirat

I specially liked that you give quite a few options for less experienced deckmakers. This will for sure make it easier to choose what works and make it a lot less fustrating when starting out Im sure..

Straight up truth. I used to work at a hardware store selling all of these glue options. You did a great job covering the pros and cons of each one.

I think you should do a video on templates. Also be sure to mention the effect a pencil has on the final size (ex: .5mm lead can add 1mm to a template if needed to size up.) I think that small detail is often overlooked especially since it makes a difference in the size of a board.

When will the next video be coming out? I've been interested in making decks for a while and this is the first video I've found that gives you a full spectrum of options. Everyone else just says this is the way I do it. I feel that this series will be great to see a bunch of different options and then I can forge my own style from it.

New Vids coming soon.

@Brian, I actually don't do templates, I see what you mean though. This series is from my perspective as a deckmaker refuting some myths and sharing knowledge. I'm not really teaching how to make decks, just showing what goes into making a good deck. If ya understand.

@General, awesome, glad you like it! happy
