Concrete Obstacle Help. Empty
PostSubject: Concrete Obstacle Help.   Concrete Obstacle Help. EmptySat Aug 08, 2015 10:14 pm

So I'm making my own concrete obstacles for my own personal use, and I've gotten molds from like a butter dish (which is exactly the same as a Level Ledge lol) but everything I put concrete in the mold, it comes out with a ton of air bubbles even though i get every one of them out by hitting the sides/bottom of the mold.. and then when it's dry, it's not even smooth... am I doing something wrong, what do i need to fix for it to come out smoother and to have less air bubbles? I'm using an 80lb bag of morter.

Ok first off I think you're using the wrong kind of concrete. Mortar isn't really meant for a smooth surface and you usually mix that stuff with sand. Secondly have you tried sifting your concrete before mixing it? Think of it as an angel food cake, you want it nice and fluffy so you sift the flour before you mix it so all the big chucks are reduced to little tiny ones. Thirdly try a different concrete mix or even mess with the ratio of water and concrete, you're bound to find the right combo which produces the smooth obstacle you desire.

you need to tap the sides good and hard all around the mold... especially at the bottom... this will help the air bubbles emerge to the top. When concrete is poured on construction sites they use a "vibrator" to do the same thing... I just use my screw driver or something and give it a bunch of good taps all around..

But also as Skatemaster has stated, the right concrete is key...

I don't see the point in comments like this. I wasn't going to say anything.... but I did.
