Fingerboard set ups Empty
PostSubject: Fingerboard set ups   Fingerboard set ups EmptyMon Oct 02, 2017 6:47 pm

Hi! I just picked up fingerboarding again after a 12 year hiatus. I started when I was 19, in 2005. When I started, people were just trying to found companies for this up-and-coming sport.

Now, in 2017, I see all kinds of options for decks and equipment. It can be overwhelming. I was curious what you all considered the best set-up. However, I want to slightly modify this question: a) what's the best set-up on a budget? And b) what's the best set-up for a person with NO budget limit? And c) what's the best set-up PERIOD?

I'm using a new tech deck now and am disappointed with the pop and feel of the board. I used to do every trick under the sun and now I can kickflip, variable flip, 360 flip, variable heel flip, and my pops are limited at best.

PLEASE HELP! Thanks fam!

It's all personal preference. An amazing, $160 set-up can be amazing to one person and absolute crap to another. I have 2 of the more costly set-ups, and although I do like them, you may not. Like I have a Homewood with 32mm BRTs and Oak RV2 wheels. To me, it's the best deck money can buy. But would you like the same high kicks/concave mold? Some would, some wouldn't. Also, you can get some amazing cheap decks. Like @tricky_fingerboards sells his blanks for under $10. They are decent. I would say that deck with some Chinese trucks/wheels is probably the "best" cheap set-up for me. But again, you might not like that style of deck. I would go on Instagram and find some deck makers, see what YOU want in a deck, and go from there. It's one of the reasons a lot of people have different completes and decks. Just like real skating, you never know you'll like something until you try it.

First I would recommend picking up some speed cream, a pack of foam tape, and decent fingerboard bushings. After that get a deck that grabs your interest and transfer the TD parts to it. The new Tech Decks now have 29 mm trucks standard so you'll be fine until you go to 34 mm. Tuning is what really makes a deck perform so much better. You'll be amazed at how good a Tech Deck becomes once it's modified.

So I picked up a StarFingerboard full build off of Etsy and IT IS AMAZING!!!!!!! Makes a TechDeck feel like a toy. So much control, so much pop, such a smooth feel... best $17.99 I ever spent on any fingerboard product

Had a few tech decks since i was younger. Just bought a 32mm P-Rep complete. Purple deep mold blank deck. Black Nuts spaced 32mm trucks. Cnc machined urethane ball bearing wheels. Plus all the hardware and grip tape. Spent $24.00 with shipping from NY to NJ. Built the setup in about an hour taking my time to make sure everything went perfect. Im very impressed. I will be buying from them again.
