How To: A Successful Fingerboard Company. Empty
PostSubject: How To: A Successful Fingerboard Company.   How To: A Successful Fingerboard Company. EmptyThu Nov 29, 2012 11:24 pm

So many of you are tired of everyone making these lame ass threads about their new company and 'takling liek d1s' people like me are sick of it, well this is the thread for many people who are trying to make a company and need tips and stuff on how to make their company accurate and successful. Please don't hate on this thread it's the best I can do about this topic. Anyways please take these tips useful and then you'll go further with your company.

1. Finding a name for your company, so you've been pondering the internet to find a unique name for your new company you're going to start. Then you name it "FreshWood" there is 1 thing you did wrong there, added "Wood" to the name of your company. Many people will not take your company seriously if you have "wood" at the end of the name, Because many companies already have "wood" at the end. So you're thinking of a new name and you think of something unique that other companies don't have then you find the perfect name that best suites you. Stick with it!

2. Making a website, so you're planning on making a website because you've just started buying/making products for your company and you came up with an excellent name and you think it's cool to stick with it, you'll want to make a website that has plenty of information on your website that will help the buyer know what their buying. You want to include a brief summary of what you're selling and describe the product in detail with good punctuation and spelling. Then also include a reasonable price that you're selling your products for, you don't want to over price your items because then people won't want to come back to your website and purchase something.

3. Re-Selling China Products, many people don't care much for china products because they're bad. All people really do care for is just the wide trucks because they go well with any setup. If you're thinking of purchasing a good amount of products from a China distributor, then re-think that. The decks are horrific but they're pretty good for a beginner board. The trucks aren't bad if they have good bushings applied to them. The wheels aren't very well but they will go good on a beginner setup. The tape is pretty good so you'll probably want to buy some of that because it is in high demand because the tape is pretty good! So that's all for re-selling Chinese products. Not all of it is bad, but most of it is.

4. Making threads on Forums, when making threads on fingerboard forums you should post in the correct place: Fingerboard Companies, and when making a thread you should make the title the title of your company with correct punctuation, like if I was making a thread I would put "Freebie Fingerboards" and then the description would also have correct punctuation with good grammar and spelling, you should make the thread describe your company well and tell the viewers what you're selling and you should post pictures along with the thread because people will most likely say "Pics or gtfo" and you don't want your company to start out like that, That's my rant about making threads.

5. Making homemade products, when making homemade products you should think about the height of them because you don't want them to bee too big or too small and you want to make sure that they can fit on people's parks/plazas. When making products you also want to make sure that you don't leave any nails sticking up from the nail gun, nor do you want to leave any material sticking out that can poke you and cut your skin. If people see that they will not want to go view products from your company nor will they plan on purchasing anything.

6. Making fingerboard decks, when making fingerboard decks most companies do medium kicks/low concave like a
real skateboard. When making decks you want to make sure that you don't make the kicks sky rocketing so they aren't useable. You'll also want to make sure that you do good on the rounding of the edges and make sure you lacquer the deck. When doing holes you should align a deck up to the deck you're making and use the holes as a reference so you don't mess it up.

I hope this thread makes many people take a closer look at making a company and re-think what they were going to do before. I hope this thread gets stickied. Okay, thanks for reading this.[i]

you seem to have forgot the part about having some products that you make and how they need to be made well? So far it seems you've just told people not to sell china products, get a website and then have a cool name and you're set to go.

That's usually all they actually know about setting one up. You've made no mention of giving back, customer psychology, the importance of knowledge and experience, and the vital part about actually getting involved in a forum! Each one of those could have an essay written about it.

Thanks Eddie.

Fingerdecks aren't that great, I'd go for a People's Republic or something if it's your first board.

To pull a Holden: scam a few people. Get banned. Steal company's name to create new profile. Single handedly begin Mikkel's detective career. Get banned. Rinse and repeat. Over and over, and over, and over...

Funny thread...

Firstly, the term 'company' is used incorrectly too many times. For instance, Spin Mater Toys Ltd is a company, whereas opening a website and selling some items is not.
If you are seriously considering forming a fingerboard company then the first thing you do is design a brand. This includes all aspects of branding, merchandising, product development and corporate imaging...
You then look into the business side of things involving finances. Forming a company costs money and keeping a company costs money. Even if you don't make any turnover! So you need to know all running costs. If you have no clue about this then you should seek guidance from an accountant or business start-up company.

When looking at a brand start-up and forming a company. You must consider all aspects of legality, finance and marketing from start to Finnish in every detail. So you need start-up capital.
You have to abide by all rules and regulations from buying, selling, packaging and accounting etc. Which is very costly.

A fingerboard shop solely dedicated to selling fingerboard merchandise would not succeed due to high running costs and low income. You could however merge with a website to create more income. Again, this is costly and therefore should be implemented in a business plan to include all running costs.

If and once you have a good plan and do decide to form a company and begin production of your own branded goods then of cause you must fit all aspects of pricing, quality and branding to sit along side competitors.

Ripping off other brand logos is a no-no. The last thing you want as a small company is a law-suit on your company name for stealing someone's intellectual property and piggybacking from this with profit... This is a far-fetched statement, however it does happen in every industry. Bigger companies will do anything to keep what they have spent much time and investment over.

Now... The China subject... Again, people don't seem to understand the economies factors when it comes down to businesses.
If you are going to simply buy stock products from China suppliers then you are seriously blinded by the fact you are getting a deal. Most of the wholesale lots you see on websites like alibaba etc are simply agents selling off unused components.
China's economy doesn't succeed by a few people buying $100 worth of fingerboard components etc to sell on, it runs on production in mass batches. If you are looking at setting up a serious venture in the fingerboard market then most business minded people would have a dedicated factory in China making their products where truly fantastic quality would be achieved to caterer to the mass market customers.

FYI - Forming a company in the UK would cost a minimum of £1000 to start-up for the first year. This would include, incorporation, accounting, website setup and sundries.

If you open a shop, or start producing your own products you will require public liability insurance and workplace insurance which would be around £1000 yearly.

Hope the above showcases a few aspects that should be considered when forming a company.

If anyone else needs help in such issues please let me know.

Thanks,
