| Hey there, guys. since I'm new to fingerboarding I was just wondering if there were any "rules" or "unwritten laws" to fingerboarding. Like, I kind of get the idea that using 3 fingers is a no-no, but what about these?
If I ollie over an obstacle does it not "count" if I'm not rolling up to it? Like, if I start in a stationary position then from that position ollie/trick over the object.
Are grab tricks just erased from the trick books?
The culture and lore of fingerboarding interest me. I wish to learn! |

| 3 fingers is a no-no (like you said) grab tricks, i do them sometimes in a miniramp or something, just for fun, but you may not go 5 meter in the air with ur fingerboard, keep it realistic i personally hate if people are doing a ollie of they first ride backwards then pop and move forwards.. |

| I've been fingerboarding on and off for a couple of years. I never took it too seriously until now, during highschool I was able to ollie and kickflip, but now I actually ordered a deck and I really dig it. It's soooo much better than a tech deck. The concave and kicks really make a huge difference and when I kickflip it feels soooo good to catch. I just can't heelflip at all. I'm really bad at it! :3 |

I've done it a few times, Like a kickflip to 50-50 or a kickflip to a boardslide. It's just really inconsistant, and hard to control where to land. I guess that's just practice though. |

| basically.. keep it two fingers and otherwise you can do what you want. Grabs and all oldschool stuff like that are still very much alive in the scene. Rolling is sort of a given with tricks, you don't HAVE to per se, but to put it bluntly no one is going to think you're very good if you cant roll. Much the same as when you start skateboarding, you can do tricks without moving, tons of kids learn stationary kickflips, but its silly because you've basically got to learn them again moving. Learn to roll and stick with it |

that's what I figured because it just didn't make sense to me to do it stationary. I skateboarded a lot so I get the concept, Haha. |

| ALWAYS ask before you grab up someones fingerboard setup and start trying tricks with it
it annoys me to the most extreme when kids try to grab my fingerboard and start using it with out asking me if its ok for them to use. |

it annoys me to the most extreme when kids try to grab my fingerboard and start using it with out asking me if its ok for them to use. Oh yes. This. At LW2, I had a closed Coffin Curb with my expensive setups in it. I put it down on the table and was less than half a table length away from it to sesh other obstacles too, then found kids opened it and using all of them. Politely told them to give them back and ask next time. I couldn't even put them back in because it was a specially arranged formation to fit them all. I don't think this thread is too old to bump but yeah. Fun is the important thing but generally accepted fingerboarding might have a few guidelines. · Keep it realistic - To be fair not all of my tricks are realistic and it doesn't need to be. Just keep it roughly realistic and have non-realistic tricks that require skill rather than stupidity with no skill. · Ride with 2 fingers but you can occasionally involve other fingers if you are creative. I do plants and grabs with my thumb and 4th finger. I've seen people do impossibles with their pinky, lol. ·.·¯—¯—_—¯ |
