suis la lune are probably my favourite band from said genre, followed by pianos become the teeth. but there are soo many good bands - I can never get bored of sunny day real estate or indian summer

I like Of Mice & Men, Adestria, Attila, Sleeping with Sirens...etc...although I'm pretty sure the bands I just listed don't exactly fit the criteria of the genre you're explaining? Suicide Silence is "emo" I think?

Thats so awesome to hear kerry! Pianos and title fight are playing here in a week or two! And jayden h. i wousd consider that more metalcore than emo.

suicide silence is emo??? *shakes head* metalcore/sludgecore/etc is pretty far from what we're talking about, the first proper emo stuff started in the late 80s with bands like moss icon.
and lurk you better be going! Pianos are amazing live, well worth going to see Infact I cant think of anyone on topshelf I wouldn't like to see : o

The song on his new video is really good but I hate these songs when they screeeeeeeaaaaam sooo friggin hard if that's what you mean.
Some might be emo, some might be something else. I don't really use genres a lot since most music is crossed between different genres anyway.
I also play bass in a post harcore band. People around here call us emo, but i dunno... We definitely have some emo parts, but our influences are much more from punk and post hardcore.

well there's different genres of what can be called 'real' emo. stricty real emo is stuff like this:
I think your train is leaving by Indian Summer. From 1994. such a good song, that whole album is amazing actually.
there's also 'screamo', but being as post hardcore is often called that it's often refered to as 'skram'. Most famously bands like funeral diner, portraits of past, pg.99, orchid, saetia - but as for a band who are around now and still making these great tunes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tU4qcW-0syM September gave us awkwardness, october gave us nothing by Suis La Lune.
End of the day genres might be a bit silly/trivial at times but I still find it odd that a genre name was completely reused and everything from my chemical romance to atreyu have got tagged something completely different to the music they play..
