Post your thoughts on what you think about Christmas.
Everyone in the FBHQ chat are having a discussion about it...

I think that Christmas is all about the birth of Jesus because if Jesus wasn't born, we wouldn't celebrate Christmas, It is also about giving, just like the 3 wise men gave Jesus the gifts, I think that, that is a symbol of giving towards Christmas. Every Christmas, I look over my presents and think about how lucky I am to have an amazing family who care for me and give me presents. For example, in our school we do an appeal where you fill a shoe box with toys, crayons, toothbrushes, soap etc for a child in a third world country such as Africa. The year after we get to see the Child we gave the shoebox to and each and every one of them absolutely adores the box. So yeah, I think it's all about- thinking of others, giving, and the birth of Jesus.

To me, Christmas is about the birth I Jesus. I think it's about giving to the less fortunate, not buying a 5,000 dollar tv for your grandpa.

^it is if you love him and he's a present and important character on your life
ye the birth of Jesus is what started all this but nowadays people don't really refer to it as the day jesus was born, it's Christmas, and I don't really associate christmas to Jesus or anything, i'm not really Christan or something.
imo it's about making happy the people who make you happy, and so for that purpose people found out a good and easy way, offering presents, BUT not only to the ones you care and love, also to the ones who need it the most.
My family always donates to charity, and Will that's a really cool project they do at your school! at my school we just donate food during a whole week to a project here in Portugal (they then distribute the food trough everyone that needs it)

Jesus forwent the glory of Heaven, was born into poverty by a virgin and was both fully God and fully man. He lived a sinless life on earth tempted in every way we are. He went to the cross willingly and died the most brutal death ever imagined in order to wash away the sins of the world, then was raised bodily from the dead three days later. He fulfilled over 300 prophecies made from between 1,500 and 400 years before His birth.

That's it in a nutshell.

EDIT: Also, Christmas is named after Christ. It's actually a repurposed Pagan holiday though. Take the Christ out of Christmas and all you've really got is an excuse to drive commercialism and sales...

I'm catholic and sometimes it bothers me when other religions that don't believe in god, or atheist celebrate Christmas.
But in your case, you definitely know what you're doing and donating to a non profit charity is probably the best thing you can do as a human civilization.

^not really wanting to go off-topic about thw whole atheist thing or something but I wasn't saying I don't believe in god, I mean I am kind of skeptical about him existing or not sometimes and I don't go to church or something but still I'm open minded so yeah

by saying it annoys you when non-christians like me celebrate christmas, how do you think the pagans feel when christians celebrate halloween?

Halloween is All Hallow's Eve, which is the day before All Saints Day. It's technically a Christian holiday (though not in any way biblical).

The Danish christmas tradition is based on an old pagan tradition called "jól". It's basically a celebration of midwinter. Celebrated with loads of meat and beer.

Simon, I never said 'non christians'. From me POV I'm saying people who don't believe in god, Christ our savior, etc, you're pretty much just having a nice dinner and exchanging presents on the 25, not really celebrating Christmas. If you know what I mean.
And Seamus I have so much respect for you hahaha.

Christians aren't the only ones that believe in God.
Simon if you don't believe in it, then why I Christmas to you? I'm not saying you should convert but I'm saying that i you think Christmas is just about giving gifts to family then you're celebrating something else, not CHRISTmas.

but these days a majority of people think of it as a happy time to spread joy and give gifts to people you love and the less fortunate. and yes, i may not be christian but i do see the religious aspect to it.

and if it is jesus' birthday, dont you give gifts on birthdays?

I guess that's what you believe. I don't know of a pagan tradition or anything. You're pretty much telling me Christ never existed. How can you get Christmas as a pagan tradition without the birth of Christ.
Edit: Simon, Jesus was born into poverty, therefore I think you should give gifts the the less fortunate (children in Africa, homeless people, war veterans etc.) more than anything, he's a symbol, not just a person that came down from heaven through the Virgin Mary.

You live in the USA.. Your country is not very old, so your people have always been christian.
But many years ago people in Europe were not Christian.

Back then they still celebrated christmas, however it was called something else. Then the missionaries came and made everyone Christian. The tradition around christmas got changed into being about Jesus and was named Christmas.

However we still dance around a christmas tree which is a ritual from the old pagan tradition.

I never said the pagan tradition wasn't real, I just said I've never heard of it.

Also, going back to what I said earlier. TO ME IT'S ABOUT FAITH. You can believe that some people from Europe changed their 'dancing around the tree' holiday to Christmas. But what is Christmas without Christ? He's in the name for gods sake.

Christmas to me is about getting together with family and close friends and having a good time. Giving and Getting. It's not only about receiving gifts but it's about having the heart to buy somebody a gift with your own money. It is also about spending family time and having some good food. Some people believe in Jesus. But others don't but some still celebrate it even if they're atheist. Merry Christmas!

That's cause you haven't read the bible, Simon. I'm not going to explain It to you lol. And to me the Christmas tree is really just a pine tree with ornaments hahaa. I have one. I don't really see how it ties in with Jesus. Haha.
