Subject: Fingers tucked in or untucked? Fri Dec 28, 2012 5:19 pm
I always used to leave my fingers untucked until I saw my self on video, then I said "that's what I look like" and have been trying to get used to tuck in my fingers.
I think the main problem for me is that when I tuck in my fingers I seem to have less balance and board control.
This actually reminds me when I first started skating and I pushed off mongo style. I never thought anything was wrong until I saw myself on video and I said "yuck, that how I look?!" so then I started pushing off regular and have never changed since.
So which is better, tucked in fingers or untucked fingers?

it is completely up to the individual some find it easier with tucked fingers others do not so at the end of the day its all down to opinion and what feels best.

Dont 'try' to tuck your fingers. Do what you think feels most comfortable. Most people try to tuck their fingers in because alot of other fbers tuck in their fingers. Just do what you like most.

Fingerboard the way that feels good for you,it's not good to try something that you don't like just have your fingers the way you feel like

I tuck my fingers, but i find it makes switch easier as your fingers arent in the way, and you dont land with like 3 fingers by accident at times. Just preference really

I feel comfortable tucking in my fingers on most of the tricks, but some tricks I like to untuck. Weird.

it doesn't really matter about style. i mean look at gary chin (no offence), he's sketchy as a motherfucker on toast but he's still on homewood...

Up til now I have been fingerboarding untucked and had a hard time doing switch and nollie stuff. But after some forced tucking of the fingers the technical part of it makes it all a bit easyer for me. My nollies have been sh*t, but now its slowly progressing. I dont care much about the style part of the tucked/untucked craze though. Do what ever you like..

I've always done untucked but tried to make it look 'styled', as that's comfortable for me. However my switch tricks are starting to gain a bit of tuck to them, not out of forcing it, but it seeming to come with my skills progressing to a decent (if I may say so myself) level in switch.
but you should always do what you enjoy, as everyone has said

Disagree, Just because someone rides untucked, doesnt make their style sketchy. Ive never watched any of his newer videos, (not ones from like 4 years ago), and thought he did stuff sketchy.

Is that a joke? He doesn't have the best style in the world, but it doesn't affect his cleanliness
This video is ridiculously nice, so clean! Style and Cleanliness are completely different. Everyone nowadays is trying to tuck their fingers to give themselves the 'german steeze' which doesn't look that good, quite lazy in my opinion (Only Sam Aronie can really pull it off).
HATE kids who try too hard to put on a style, just use natural style that you have been given in life haha

Sometimes it looks like they're trying too hard. Sam's style is pretty cool
and amen to the second statement...

Now that I'm thinking about it, yeah I think I do tuck in my fingers while doing switch tricks. It definitely helps to get those extra fingers out of the way.

I prefer to keep mine untucked. I'm trying tucked but like you said it is less controllable. People adapt either way, i'm going untucked again.
