My Mother who is kinda cool (lol) doesn't actually see the difference if china decks and fingerboarder made products. She thinks that companies like blackriver are selfish because of their high prices and that they go to china. She thinks that china products are king just because of their low prices. She thinks that kerry and the others only just started giving back to fingerboarding.Put down below how your parents react to prices and things. Also try to help me on my situation as she started talking about the poor children and crap.

I used to go with cheap products, as I got older and started working I bought more professional fingerboard items.

The difference is huge, but not just in performance.
China companies buy cheap and make a huge mark-up on products.

Buying from other places (companies in the banner for example) may cost more, but you pay for much better performance, craftmanship and you help keep the scene alive.

If you want money for fingerboarding go out and earn it. Stop whining because your Mum won't pay for your hobby.

china companies only exist because they emulated the scene, which has been around for eeons longer than china crap. I've been working my ass off with unite since before china companies existed. maybe showing the vastness of the scene would help happy also perhaps events and such like that, we're on the 16th Fast Fingers this year? Where's all the events organised by china companies? Oh right, none have ever happened. Ever.

The amount of hard work and money that goes into making an event is huge! I have never held my own event, but i have been to one. I know you have to get people to come, parks to skate, food to eat, drinks to drink, a space available for you to hold this event etc. All this adds up to countless money and time.

I agree with this^ Also my Mom is shocked about the prices, but she still lets me order it as it is my own money. At first she didnt understand and thought a 24.75 4cfb complete was a TON, but now she doesnt mind if im ordering G13's and stuff.

Companies like BR and many major producers do indeed purchase products from China but you must not forget the markup is there for a reason, not just for huge profits. Running a company costs money, more money that to produce products hence the inflation mark-ups on retail shelf's.
Not one fingerboarder who does it for a hobby will go and purchase thousands of units from China so price has nothing to do with it in terms of retail price. You pay for the product and the market usually sets these prices... The bigger a company gets, the more money it costs to run and expenses go higher this is why retail prices stay constant.

Also Floppy, your mum is wise to the economies of scale so don't disregard that. However China doesn't use Child labor these days - go to any certified factory in China and they won't allow children to work.

In terms of China goods, the majority of products are simply stock products - this is why you see on foreign trade sites many blank products for cheap money. They are usually factory seconds etc so when they get sold and distributed through retail shops/web shops they only get a certain quality product and therefore gets a bad reputation. If on the other hand you where a big company like Br etc, you would have large minimum quantity orders for bespoke products which would go through good quality control and to do this would cost a premium for things such as design, packaging, marketing etc.

There are some really poor quality China decks/trucks/wheels so it seems but if you really think about this... How many fingerboard companies have sourced stuff from China in some way or form... I believe many have, all you have to do is look...

All imports are governed so you can find out such details...

The important thing is to not question every little thing (unless you are a connoisseur of such products) but instead focus on buying products that you like for your own reasons... If that products value pays off then it is well worth it...

It costs roughly £10 to go to the cinema and you get to see a movie for a few hours max, whereas a £10 deck might keep you entertained for days - So it may seem expensive but the value is much higher and therefore worthwhile buying!

As long as you like something it doesn't matter how much it costs.
My first wooden fingerboard was a 4C and I loved it I thought it was
great but like everybody else I wanted to try better products so when I was
in Berlin I bought a Berlinwood and after I had used that I could hardly use the 4C.
So I guess something is good if you haven't tried any better so a China deck can be awesome when you first get a wood deck.

My parents told me to come over by the home computer because they wanted to have a "talk" with me.

They then showed me some links for websites with the words pornstorm in them.

They thought that I was looking at porn, which is against their rules, but I told them that it was just fingerboarding.

They didn't believe me until I clicked on the link and showed them that it was just fingerboarding.

....... now I just hope that they don't find the REAL porn websites that I go to <_

hide yo' history if you're still that age. you can download simple programs that clear all your history and such, install it to a flash drive so they don't know you've installed it, then just plug in, run quickly, unplug, you're good to go.

This, or you can clear your history through your browser. Also, like Kerry said, find a portable version of a browser and put it on a flash drive. All of your history from those sessions will be saved on the drive. Just don't lose it very happy

Anyways, my situation is a bit different because I have arthritis in my hands. My parents have always been really supportive of fingerboarding/guitar/piano because it keeps my hands active. My mom was pretty surprised by the price of my recent (first) setup, but she didn't care since I used my own money.

Damn your parents search your history pretty well! And they were too scared to click the link themselves...? Yeah that's what private browsing was created for...

So you can buy presents for people and they won't spoil it by finding out ;D <3 windows ads
