| I believe a Nikon D3100 is around $400. It is a very very nice camera. You can ask Eric Best or Darian. They both have this camera. I'll link you to both of there youtube's so you can check out the quality. As far as software goes, you can easily download free software like Sony Vegas. Although i'm the same as you and would much prefer to just buy it so you don't have to go through this huge hassle. Eric: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5SjqSyqrJZPQWXJmOk40UADarian: https://www.youtube.com/user/wweosirisDarian uses both a Gopro and a D3100 so look at Darian's BeastPants welcome video to see Nikon footage. A Gopro hero 3+ is also in that price range and is very nice quality. |

| Ya no problem dude:) I'm also looking at cameras to get. I was looking at this and a Canon T3i. The T3i looks really good but it's a little pricey. I"ll link you to Nico Franks new skate video so you can check out the GoPro Hero 3+ footage. Nico Frank: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lDWwWjbuk4And you don't need a fish eye for the D3100. Eventually i think it would be a good idea to get one to try and spice up your videos. They can be a little pricey though. With the GoPro, it comes with a fisheye that i don't believe is detachable. Here's the fisheye for a D3100. Lens: http://www.ebay.com/bhp/fish-eye-lens-for-nikon-d3100These seem to be cheaper than normal |

| I've got a go pro hero 1. its awesome. i mean i don't skydive or surf with it, but i use it for skating, and i know it can take some abuse. and when it comes to finger boarding, its awesome cause its hand held and has different settings. its got 1080 for hi def, and the wide angle lens is nice. i also have an iPhone 5, and it works awesome. so its really up to you. the nikon mentioned is awesome for taking pictures too, if your into that. the go pro has a camera setting, but like i said, its wide angle all the time, so no interchangeable lenses as you'd get on a nikon or canon eos |

| Ok so now I am going to explain something about my film setup : So I use a Nikon d 5100 with live vie x option screen:) such a sick thing the d5100 is a bit more better than the 3100 and in this cause a little bit more expensive . You can check the prices in the internet . Than I use a walimex pro 8mm a very expensive but good fisheye IMO . So the only problem with this objective is that there is no "pre- lens" that means that if you have stretches on your lens it means the objective is for*** so you have to work very carefully Also I am using a film light and a handle from opteka which isn't necessary . I am also using a go pro3 . Really sick camera and I use it also for the action moves and so on :)the only bad thing is that the sound isn't good but I mean you don't need it for good edits :)the last fact I want to explain that the cool thing about videography is that with even a d3100 camera which is real good you get the same pictures with the d5100 or a canon you just have to know how use a Camera and also to know what Funktions you can get on it . Always film Manuel and take time on practicing and also on construct the Situation :)enjoy filming and just research in the internet for more Infos oh and my editing software is Sony Vegas but I dream of final cut Sorry for some not really English standard words , I am from Germany . Hope you enjoyed it anyways |

| Stay away from Nikon for video work... Get a Canon t2i, you can get em used for like $200 I love Premiere Pro, but in my experience FCPX and Vegas are good too. Premiere is harder to use, but you have wayyy more control.
I generally try to stay out of these threads, because I end up getting pissed off over people who don't know what the heck they're talking about.. |

| Use a cracked version of a good editing program.
I got a Canon T2i off of ebay for $400.
Someone said that you can get it for $200, but that's probably for the BODY only. |

Lol. I'm currently in college earning a degree in cinema, film, & media. I have 3 years of weekly professional camera operation and live switching (in front of 1200 + people) experience, and my video experience goes back 6 years. I'm not the best in the world, that's for sure, but I do know all the hassles that come along with nikons when shooting video. However, I love nikkor lenses. Telling me i don't know anything about videography is a fantastic way to get my jimmies rustled. - Pureskate wrote:

Yeah, but you can get the 18-55 for ~$50 |

| I suggest getting a used t3i they are cheap and you might be able to get a lens for around 450 with the body, you can also download FCPX 10.0.9 for free of utorrent which I highly recommend. |

(check freeling.. got inspired) i do it also because i have fun with it and work hard for getting a good topic and also some 5 min videos. check yours first and think about it. i dont want to hate but i try my best to get better and better and never said i am a pro dude !

| I'm not trying to hate, what school are you going to? You can get final cut right now on u torrent and pirate bay in like 15 min. It's good your going to a film school, glad your chasing your dreams but nikons are inferior cameras in video just stating facts, heck I hate canon's too but thats what i learned on now I'm using a Blackmagic which I love 12 stops of dynamic range, 12 bit raw if I want it, a wonderful 10 bit Prores codec. There is a lot to learn and its good learning on camera's like nikon and canon's but if your a cinematographer learning about light and composition is key, you can push that nikon far if you know it's limits. Sorry about sounding harsh. |
