i'm getting a laptop for college and i can't decide which one to get. i'll mostly be using it for the interwebs, hwk assignments, netflix/movie streaming, and maybe editing.

i'm also aware of the whole pc v. mac so if you could suggest a similar laptop/better (lolol) one, then that'll be good. also windows 7 would be a plus (my current desktop is still a XP...). oh and i'd like to be able to travel with it to my classes so something that won't break my back. lol.

when my dad bought the pro he has ( he bought it in november) he bought last years model right before the pro's with the retina came out. he saved about 200 dollars, and the only difference between his, and the current one, is that his has a disc drive. i think its better to get the one with the disc drive, because if you happen to have a disc, and you dont want to carry around a external drive, your out of luck. but thats whats gonna happen to you if you have an air, ( they dont have drives). my iMac has one, and its the most useful thing ever. i have an average speed of wifi at my house, and i know when i installed cs6 and office for mac, it would have taken alot more time if i would have used airdrop and installed it wirelessly. hope that wasnt too much. and have you looked into apple refurbished? http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac

same warranty, all the boxes and stuff youd get if it were new, and nothing is wrong with it. and apple does financing, along with best buy. but its all up to you!

thanks for the information jackson! i'm using the education discount so the pro gets $200 off whereas the air gets only $50. so the 13" pro would be $999 and the 11" air is $949..i'll most likely get the pro if the prices is still the same. plus the disc drive and editing hah

I don't mean to in as 'ooooh macs suck' because I don't actually believe that - but 1200 dollars for a 13" laptop that doesn't have a proper graphics card in it? O____o

If you go win7 you could get sooooo much more for the price - especially as most of what you're looking at is just homework/internet/streaming. My tablet can probably (bluetooth keyboard to do homework with) do that just as well as any laptop and it cost fuck all, I think the nexus 7 is like 200-250 dollars.

I like to say if your needs are met by the air you might as well get an iPad.

well.. US people will know what ever site you guys have that do pre built non branded pcs. Like not dell/alienware, a pc hardware shop that does it's own pcs/laptops- we have a few different ones here but there's gotta be US ones too. They're where the value is, aside self builds
