Closeup Gen 5 Closeu10

Closeup Gen 5 Closeu11

Price: (10/10) I bought the complete which is $32 plus shipping. Not bad at all if you ask me.

Shipping: (10/10) I bought this complete from Flatface on a Monday around 1am. Got to me Wednesday the same week around 4pm.

First Impressions: (9/10) I loved the shape of it right away. The lacquering was awesome and felt like it had some good pop to it. It is a laser etched graphic. The trucks are single axle so that is a plus (and they are my favorite color so double plus). Wheels are Urethane Core Wheel. One core was missing from the wheel but I will discuss that in a bit.

Performance: (8/10) I set this bad boy up as soon as I got it and absolutely loved it. I had to switch out one wheel because of the core issue. But it still felt great. Pop felt good for the first couple of days. After about 3 days it felt soggy for some reason, but it still feels good. The wheels squeaked a lot and didn't roll that well but nothing a little WD40 or silicone spray can't fix. After applying the silicone spray they feel like butter and there is no sound at all.

Craftsmanship: (7/10) The craftsmanship is quite good but I did have some troubles getting in one of the screws. A small misalignment but nothing I couldn't fix. After a little bit of work with a push pin the screw went in fine. Since the wheel is Urethane without a core it would not budge, so I immediately switched that out so I could start ripping right away.

Customer Service: (10/10) I emailed Flatface and Closeup about the wheel issue. I got an immediate response from both which was great. The set came with purple wheels Flatface told me they would send me a replacement wheel if they could find a purple one. They couldn't instead they sent me a whole set of white wheels and some lime green Bollie wheels (I think they are Bollie anyways) and that took me by surprise. Closeup explained that they mass produce these wheels and this is a very rare issue for them. I told them that Flatface was sending me a replacement set and there was no need for them to send me another replacement wheel, but they insisted.

Positives: Great feel to the deck, great wheels (minus that little hiccup), and great feeling trucks. Plus you can't go wrong with that price.

Negatives: The wheel issue (which is rare, so there really is no need to worry), and the board starts feeling a little soggy after a while.

Overall: (8/10) Its still a great board to have and for a fairly good price. This is my first wood deck (besides the ones that I make for myself) so to some of you Closeup might not have received that high of a rating. But for it being my first professional grade fingerboard, I think it is amazing. If you are a beginner looking for a step up from tech deck I highly encourage you to purchase one. For those that have a lot of experience, it is still a great deck to have imo.

Honestly, I hate close up fingerboards. The wheels are crap, and the shape (at least the hardcore mold) is very generic. The deck graphics are pretty sick, and the trucks are actually really good. But the trucks aren't shaped that well. I do have to say though, good review. Very detailed, but I can't fully appreciate the review, because I have already made my decision about close ups haha. happy

Slaw spray some silicone spray in the wheels. It makes them so much better. Trust me. I didn't like them at first, but after the spray I kind of want more of them. And thank you all for your kind words. I'll be doing a Homewood Shop Deck review soon.
