Here ya go!
Don't be put off by the shonky appearance, tons of detailing and smoothing to go Going to add some cool accessories too, and paint, etc etc.
I'd encourage anyone to give it a shot, it's time consuming but not really difficult. I literally taped all my polystyrene sheets together, drew a line of what I thought might be cool, and just used a wire brush to carve it out with a vaccum in my other hand.
Ill smooth it more once it's dried a bit, and I'll get it super smooth with my sander once fully dry,

Awesome! how thick is the concrete layer? It would be interesting, once it is dried and finished, to dissolve the foam with acetone, and replace it with wood supports (or something similar).

^ that's my next project! Bakko
Taylor, the concrete layer is quite thin. I did consider doing it really thick and dissolving the polystyrene but I don't want to do another 3/4 thick layers to make it strong enough cause ill loose all the depth.
If you wanted to try that kind of bowl, you could do a poured concrete one. Basically, make a negative mold. So cut the reverse of what I did so where mine is carved down, yours is up. Or use a plastic or fibreglass bowl with a really smooth surface Put a quick wooden frame around it, and pour in the concrete. Let it set and remove the wooden frame and mold and you have a solid concrete bowl of sorts.

Yeah, what Joe is mentioning here with the negative/positive mold is awesome bacause the mold itself is what makes the smooth surface and makes it easy to add texture to the "poolcoping" and "tiles" or whatever beforehand, as you can take your time making the mold. Mold can be carved out of polystyrene or even wood and then smoothed out and detailed with bondo then sanded smoof. If you got access to a compressor and cement spraygun use it for the first thin layer countertop grade mix, then add a thick layer of mix with straws of fiberglass with hands (latex gloves). Watch videoes of how concrete sinks are made and you get the picture. It sounds a lot more complicated than it actially is....trust me!
And when you pull it out of the mold - presto!! Smooooooof surface all done..

Speaking of....
They aren't all so neat, infact most are pretty scruffy haha, but I like that. They will look better with paint and a sand.

Thanks for all the comments guys! This is what happens when you watch all 9 parts of "Kassel Ost - Bowlmasters 2010" in bed on a Sunday morning.
Amanda that looks really nice, I really need to get a good rail, I only have boxes and stuff.
EDIT :
Update on the bowl.
What I feared happened, I had it pretty damn smooth, it was drying nicely. And then cracks started appearing in places. Turns out the cement was way too thin in places. I've added about the same again ontop, hopefully this will solve my problem.
I could have just waited for it to dry and patch the cracks, but I promised myself I'd do this project right. Besides, I want that good solid feel from a concrete bowl.
Quite a bit of work undone though, I'd been smoothing it out every hour or so all day

Built these two today, a street bench and a square rail. Not happy with my bonding job so tomorrow I think I'm going to try again. But other than that I'm pretty stoked on how they turned out!
