| Companies are not started by buying the materials needed and just making decks to sell. Find out what you need, start out, get it right, then release it |

| 1. Strongest wood is maple, but search around for what type of veneer you like the most.. 2. 1/16 for holes 1/8 for countersink 3. Titebond works perfectly fine. 4. If you're planning to sand the whole deck by hand, you will want a pretty rough grit, I usually use 100grit after i sand with a machine, then a finer grit maybe like 150+ to make it nice and smooth.
I don't make professional decks, but I do make them for fun and these are the basics of it. Don't ask a good way to align holes though, because I don't have a professional mold, and my holes never come out aligned.. never. |

| Id just suggest not getting focused on making a company as much. Focus on quality first before you even think about a company. |

| Kuhpopie, it's not about the company. Its about what is needed to make decks. without knowing shit about the holes and wood, it isn't going to work. |

Im confused. Thread is made with detailed questions about basic deck making and also an explanation that the information is needed to make a company. Then later stated not for company after all.. |

| Since nobody else would answer a pretty simple set of questions... 1. You need really thin slices of wood, called veneers. You can buy them off ebay, you can buy some from people here (me included) or you can buy some from a china company like Gator (not recommended)
2. You need to different size bits to make a deck, one to actual drill the holes, and one to countersink. I can't remember exactly what sizes they are but I'm sure you can find them on the link that Ryan gave.
3. Titebond 2 is pretty much the standard for homemade decks.
4. You're going to need a few, if you're hand sanding it it can take awhile. It's kind of personal preference and how smooth you want your decks to be, but I usually do 80 then 100, 120, 180 and 220 that will make it smooothhh
I hope that helped. |

| I used Titebond 2 on a homemade deck and let it sit overnight (24 hours) and when I took it out of the mold the kicks were floppy and it lost its shape.
How long do you have to leave the deck in the mold with glue for it to set btw? |

| If you're going to use wood glue, I'd use titebond 3. I pressed a deck between two tech decks with that stuff months ago and it hasn't lost its shape. When shaping the deck, a disk sander works very quickly, and from there you can hand sand it. Don't really need anything over 300 grit, but the higher you go the smoother and shinier it'll be. |

How long do you have to leave the deck in the mold with glue for it to set btw? Pureskate, you didn't have it clamped hard enough then. I use plain Titebond, because there is no difference in stength between the 3, and all my decks come out really crisp and firm, not floppy at all. You just need to make sure that they are clamped really tightly, (preferably with a vise) and take the deck out between 12-24 hours. That's what I do. |

| but the normal titebond isn't water resistant, what if your deck falls is a puddle of water ? |

| thats why you put laquer of clearcoat on the deck because: 1. It shields the deck from water getting into the wood 2. It makes the deck shiny and makes it look aesthetically pleasing 3. It makes the surface of your deck hard and smooth so that when you slide on an obstacle you a smooth slide.
But im pretty sure if you dropped any deck in a puddle it would be ruined, im not sure though cause ive never dropped a deck in a puddle. |

| idk what you have around where you live but most people use the stuff that is sprayable and not like wood varnish. I use a clear spray-on polyurethane made for wood that is hard wearing and is resistant to scuffs. |

| Yeah, what LazyFingers said. I only use Titebond because it's right for me. If you do a lot of outdoor fingerboarding, where there might be water, then Titebond 2 or 3 might be better for you. I don't really have any good outdoor spots so I fingerboard indoors more, which is why I use Titebond. It's the cheapest of the 3, too |
