| what did you use to spread it around so smooth? and how did you do it? because I have made a bowl or 2 out of foam ( which I assume you used ) and it just didn't work out that well |

At first mine looked crappy, I used regular cement but sifted through the additives like the rocks and put a quarter inch of that on and used a spoon to smooth it as best as I could. It still didn't look great so I grabbed some type 10 cement or portland cement I've heard people call it. Which is the powder. I used a paintbrush to paint it on over the bumps and square the edges, this stuff is quite easy to sand too so I would glob it onto the spots that needed it because once it dried I could sand it down just where I'd need it, same with the edges. Type ten isn't as strong though so I wouldn't suggest just using type 10. Then there were still a few spots that needed to be worked on so I filled everywhere that needed it with drywall putty. which is super easy to sand. Caked it on and sanded. Sure some people may be able to do the whole process without sanding, and if I were to do it again there would be less of it but this way you can make the edges perfect and no bumps. Smooth all over. Then use a coat of primer and thick brush on paint, I used a brush then went over the wet paint with a small roller so there would be no brush lines. 2 or 3 coats. I did all of this without knowing the first thing about working with concrete. edit: fixed spelling mistakes.. and I wanted to mention when I used the type 10, I added water until it was the same consistency as paint, maybe a little thicker. |
