I've noticed a few fingerboarders running skate grip and foam together and others with full skate grip. It made me think about when i first started fingerboarding i prefered skate grip over foam tape, it lasts forever. Whats your opinion on this?

Leaning towards skate grip now. Much cheaper and I like the grip of it more and the fact that its so colorful!

I use skate grip on my setups when im out of rip but I have huge feeling every body will start using it now. Anyway I think skate grip is cool sometimes though

I generally prefer skategrip. Gives a much better feel of the deck, and it looks better.
To me there isn't much performance difference, and i dont think either is cheating. Mixing grip and foam seems silly to me, but everyone wants to be cool and individual #swag.

this ^^ i think foam>grit because part of the reason the grip works so well on skateboards is because A. theres a lot more pressure due to the weight of the rider, creating more friction, and B. when skating you have a rubber sole on the shoe which again, gives more grip. People have to remember that fingerboarding isn't skateboarding, just a representation of it, but you still want to recreate the physics of it as accurately as possible. anyways just use whatever you want, but imo not using foam is just a hindrance to yourself and i personally don't like it.
unless it's on a brutal. then using foam is just sacrilege

I used it when I was starting, now I put grip because I wanted a painted grip. You can see it on the New setups topic

I love mixing skate grip and foam together...
i think it´s much easier to use tape but I also think its way more realistic to use normal grip...
PS: I love those vx/dvx whatever videos sooo much.

I love grip, iv only been using tape the past few years, theres so many different designs you can do with it and it looks much more gnarly.

Exactly.
as someone who strives for realism in fingerboarding, ill be the first to say moving back to regular skate grip on fingerboards is a huge step backwards.
I know the foam tape isnt as realistic, but it makes up for the shortcomings of using your fingers instead of your actual feet.. shoes/rubber play a huge role in grip on an actual board, not so much with a fingerboard.
stick with foam, there is a reason the scene progressed towards foam and away from regular grip.

i usually like foam tape on my decks i actually use for tech tricks, but on cruisers or fun mello boards or outdoor boards, skate grip is great. also i really like how you can color your skate grip and make designs

Except when people have better tricks using grip. Then it's not really a hindrance.
Every one have their own preference, you can't say that one is better than the other. The only reason i use foam tape more often than grip is because grip leaves som sort of dust on the surface you skate, and it can scratch up furniture and shit.

i usually do my skateboard grip pretty funky so i have all this checkered stuff laying around an whatnot. so i tried out the whole skate grip thing, and holy shit is it hard, but it looks so cool. is there any way to color foam tape? it doesn't react to bleach as far as i know, so i don't know how you could color it.

it may just be my limited experience with the stuff but I don't think I've ever seen someone do great tricks BECAUSE of grip, only doing great tricks in spite of it

I've been using it alot lately. The benefits are it's cheap as hell and you don't have to break it in. But foam is alot easier to use in my opinion. I'm way more styled and consistent with foam. I think I have more fun using skate grip though. I can land all the same tricks, it's just a little more difficult.
