Can't stand any of Eminem's new stuff, ever since Relapse or whatever. Old Shady is where it's at. Other than that, I love 90's rap, and some new underground-ish artists like Underachievers and Joey Badass.

Backpack hiphop all the way!
MF Doom The Herbalizer Madlib
Then reppin' uk MCs:
Roots Manuva Werd Skinnyman Braintax Jehst Rodney P Lowkey Akala
I'm not as big of a fan of US hiphop. Especially recent US hiphop, as PierreE said, the USA hit a high in the 90's and I don't think it's produced rap as good since.
I'm a big fan of UK Hiphop, because it's in a place that American hiphop was 10/20 years ago, much more about social justice and real life than a lot of the US stuff I hear (maybe I'm just not looking in the right place!). Less polished, and more about lyricism than bangers, y'know?
If you only listen to one Mc from my list, check out Jehst. Simply amazing.

Honestly, I prefer modern hip-hop over old-school "golden age" hip-hop because it's more relatable to me and in most cases the production is way better (some exceptions of course, The Chronic 2001 for example). I think the idea of rap deteriorating over the last decade is usually grounded in ignorance, with people having a closed mind towards new music and looking at the past with rose-tinted glasses.
That said some of my favorite artists are: Kanye and most of G.O.O.D. music Most of TDE - Schoolboy Q, Kendrick, Isaiah Rashad Danny Brown MF DOOM Childish Gambino recent Mac Miller Earl Sweatshirt and Tyler Vic Mensa and Chance the Rapper Outkast
etc.

Maybe not a decline in quality, because, fair play, there are some amazing current US artists. I guess what I mean is there seems to have been an upsurge in shit rap/hiphop getting airtime. So not that there isn't quality, but that it's being, to some extent, drowned out. And it depends on how far back you go too. Dre's 2001 was a classic but it was a modern classic. You need to be going back to grandmaster flash, the sugar hill gang, all that stuff, to fully appreciate hip hops history.
It also depends what you want out of your hiphop. For me talent and lyricism outclass production values and hooks.

This track is great, Hop basically talks about what's wrong with hip hop and the general direction of teenagers these days aha. Got a lot of respect for Hopsin, doesn't rap about cash or cars, just stuff that's real to him.

That opinion about rap getting worse over the years, imo is referring to lyrics, when you have rappers like French Montana, Rick Ross and 2 Chainz (just to name a few) making money, it shows you how much things got worse, but at the same time, you see some new artists that are really good getting recognition too (K.Dot's a perfect example of that)

^I agree with that 100% Danny, lyrics wise he's good, but the biggest thing that sets me off about Hopsin is his corny ass hooks man, they're just so bad m(Knock Madness was filled with terrible hooks) I kinda would want to see him rap oer some really old school beats, but yeah I fuck with a couple of his mixtapes right now i'm listening to Danny Brown's Old, but the last rap album that came out that I've been playing is Freddie Gibb's Piñata
