Another project I'm working on for Texas Vous 4 Empty
PostSubject: Another project I'm working on for Texas Vous 4   Another project I'm working on for Texas Vous 4 EmptyWed Apr 23, 2014 5:26 am

So I've been trying to build as many things as I can for the upcoming Texas Rendezvous 4 event that will take place in Houston Texas in Summer 2014.

The date and location will be announced when appropriate.

So here is an old obstacle that I made many years ago and even though its a fun ramp there were some flaws.

First, it didn't have any coping on it so there wasn't really anything to grind on.

Second, the transition from the flat bottom surface to the ramp wasn't smooth and was hard to use. I tried using wood putty to make it less awkward, but it only helped some.

Since I didn't want to see this old project of mine go to waste I'm giving it a new makeover.

This is what it originally looked like.

And here is what it looks like now. I've decided to try out the whole bamboo idea on this ramp an order to learn the process.  Some of the glue accidentally spilled out in-between the cracks of the bamboo, but I plan on maybe putting wood filler over it so it will not stand out.

So far I only have this one piece of bamboo on it, but as you can see there is a metal coping bar as well as the other remaining bamboo pieces that will be put on soon. The bamboo wood resting over the transition already feels 100 times better thus improving the ramp greatly.

And oh gosh, I have like 3 big projects that need to be finished.

I'll post updates when I can.

See you next time! happy

The glue should be able to either sand away or pull off with your fingers when it's set

Looks fun man! Kind of reminds me of a concrete spot that Mike made!

So even though I got all this bamboo stuff for my ramps the thing is that I haven't really worked with it all that much.

I glued the bamboo on the ramp and honestly it could have just been finished with that, but since I'm kind of like experimenting I decided to try something a bit extra.

So I got some wood putty and attempted to fill in all of the cracks. I pretty much covered the whole ramp with it.

Then I let it dry and sanded it down. By the way it felt super super smooth at this point.

And sanded it down again with finer grit sand paper.

Then I put a few coats of rub on polyurethane on it for a super smooth and glassy finish.

Unfortunantly the color turned out to be poop brown... :@ but it is what it is and it rides incredibly smooth!

I'll paint the sides black next time.
