I've only just started fingerboarding and I just wanted to clarify I'm doing this correctly. I'm right handed and I'm using my index finger to pop the board and my middle finger to control it. Is this correct?

Hey man if that works best for you do it haha people would be pretty impressed if you got good at doing it that way. Yeah the other way around is normal. I had a friend a while back that did his flip tricks on a skateboard goofy but rode down hills regular, and that's just how he did it, couldn't kick flip regular stance but rode that way, so to everybody else it looked like he was oddly good at switch tricks

Technically that's switch, but I've heard of a few people who start out that way! I suppose it just makes you a goofy fingerboarder rather than regular?

always thought Goofy would be left handed, this is just riding switch. not that there's anything wrong with that, but you'll be doing all your tricks switch

It's still goofy stance though. So i dunno, call it right-hand-goofy. Riding like that might cause you some trouble later on, making it harder to learn stuff. I wouldn't know since i ride normal But having fun is the important part, so dont stress out about it.
