| I know skate grip has been used and whatnot , but it's definitely a "trend" right now and you can't deny that a sudden increase of more people posting pictures of it bc of bigger names doing it lately. side note , grip jobs are alot better looking in color though  |

| To be fair, John did have that grip tape contest, which caused a lot of people to try it out and some people probably just dug it and rolled on with it. Grips got a nice feel to it that can get kinda comfortable, and it pushes you a little harder to land the same tricks. Different strokes for different folks. |

This trend began far before the grip competition. I think John held the contest because he saw how many people were doing these grip jobs. |
