Is there a general range of kick angles that are classified as "Low, Medium, and High" for fingerboards? Very few companies actually post their kick angle or full deck specs. The terms low, medium, and high are up to anyone's preference or interpretation when reviewing a deck, so sometimes that is hard to go by. It would be nice to have a baseline to go off of when making or purchasing a new mold.

*I posted this in Quick Questions already and received no responses prior to it getting buried under a page and a half of other questions. Wasn't sure if this would fit more in General Discussion or How To's since its dealing with FB design/mold making. MODs feel free to move it if necessary.

In my opinion low is around 20,medium is around 25 and high is around 30 degrees.i hope this helps dude.

Thanks Neztek! That's very helpful. I know that in order to have a metal mold made (which a lot of people get through NFB molds) you need to choose a specific angle for the nose and tail. Before I take that plunge I will be experimenting with various Bondo molds to make a low/mid kick that I am happy with. My current mold has 30 degree kicks, never really measured it before now.

Most low kick companies (Weca, Beastpants, etc.) have kicks around 19-22. More medium companies have kicks from 23-26 and 27 onwards is high kicks. I may be wrong but this is just my opinion based on facts told to me by deck makers

Skateboards are like 19 - 20.  Low for a fingerboard would be 19-23.  Med, 24 -26. 27 and up would high imo. I included some examples below.

yea i understand you want to experiment with some bondo molds but theres not a way of making bondo molds exactly 26 degree angles and such , jim from nfb can do pretty much anything. the model he will send you for your approval looks exactly like the deck will.

I would agree. Making stuff by hand and trying to be precise is a losing battle when it comes to molds and such. You'll be much happier with a cnc mold, perfection.

Thanks for the input guys, both of your companies decks are freakin awesome. I have had pretty good success with making a block mold out of Bondo and cutting the proper nose and tail angles with a fine tooth chop saw and light sanding. The concave and softening of the kick angle at the pivot is all filed by hand before pouring the second half of the mold. The accuracy is good enough to get in the ranges of low, medium, and high. My finished mold has low tail and medium nose around 22.5 and 25 degrees respectively with a pretty mellow concave. I'm very happy with the feel of the kicks and will probably be ordering an NFB mold to those exact specs later this year.
