Subject: Alternatives to a key file? Sun Dec 14, 2014 8:12 pm
I was watching this tutorial on how to put on griptape:
However, I do not have access to a key file. What are some alternatives that you guys have used to cut the excess tape off from around the deck once the tape is on?
Thank you!

i use exact same philips screwdriver as in the video to file my tape xd pretty much anything works just do firm movements and apply enough pressure the foam is super easy to work with! or just use a nail file

You can use a scissor blade, a blackriver tool, a key, anything with a straight and sharp edge will do!

I lay the tape on the top then use an extra piece of skategrip to kind of sand down the edges until the tape looks clean and round. Works pretty well. When I'm putting on skategrip I just use the side of my BRR tool to etch the sides and a razor blade to cut it out.

disposable nail file FTW for foam grip. I don't recommend blades since your grip will still fit technically, but edges will be fugly unless u spend time cleaning it up.

Thanks for the input guys, I'll try a banana next time. Though for my first setup (loving it btw, such a nice hobby for winding down at the end of the day), I used a nail file in my swiss army knife.
