People were making there own around the time this video came out in 1985..me included..then things got easier with the keychains coming out..just use plyers and take of the chain..those cost $3.50 at the skateshop..people would ollie milk crates at lunch and we would all get in trouble get em takin away and get em back after school! lol fukin dicks!..wish i would have kept the earlier hand made ones..just like current times its always better handmade..the 1990's got weird and you loose stuff moving around etc

I just want to say that these are legit pre tech deck fingerboards. I remember having similar plastic ones, but of a later generation with 2 kick tales and not of the old school shape.

Yeah, more people that remember the good ol`days always welcome! Rad collection, thanks for sharing!!!
Wish I could find more of my old diy setups from late eighties and onwards. The plastic keachain ones like the psychostick graphic I had were a bit heavy to use tho, the diy ones had a nicer feel. But I remember it was super exiting getting hold of one, I even remember the smell of it if you know what I mean. One of the trucks broke at one point in my pocket at school sadly. I tried my best to glue the pieces together again, but it was never the same, as I wished it was mint condition..haha..good times man..good times..

Oh, and does anyone have Lance`s article from the vintage Transworld Skateboarding Magazine issue..?

Sweet Bakko , that old complete , you made that? What are the trucks from?
Yeah. Just used whatever was laying around at the time. Wheels were kitbashed from some sort of small toy car and glued together with some pieces of plastic parts from some kind of curtain hanger thingys we had a ton of in the bottom drawer in the kitchen where all the miscellaneous stuff was put..lol

lol guys XD Wish I could find more. I know they still exist somewhere in some old boxes of random stuff or some place, but Id have to dig really deep..
Hey Nate, please feel free to share some more of your memories/fingerboarding history! It's amazing because now later on, thanks to the internet, people are so much more aware that others were doing the same sort of things. Only in different locations and without no apparent connection to each other that is. Pretty radical..

Cant remember where this thing found its way to me. No, its not home made. It got the Homer sticker on the bottom and a Bart sticker on the top. My guess is that it might be some kind of promotional thing from McDonalds at some point in time or something like that. I just know its really old..lol

So awesome!!! I started fingerboarding right when Tech Deck came out. I know Martin Winkler has a collection of his own homemade fingerboards from the early '90s.
