| Hello everybody, i'm posting this here as an opinion because i'm honestly unsure if i'm being unreasonable or if i'm in the wrong. I got an orangewood deck today from orangewoodfbs.bigcartel.com It was a yellow blank deck, and the rounding was a bit off so i contacted the owner on instagram @orangewood.fbs to see if there was anything he could do about it. I will post the pictures below. I sent him comparison pictures of the deck i received to a correctly rounded deck i already own, and in his opinion the deck still looked fine. Then he replied that it's barely off and he made an excuse that he gets off stuff from Flatface all the time. Is it just me or if you receive an item that's has an imperfection you weren't aware of, you're entitled to customer service to make a wrong into a right? He offered for me to send it back and he'd shave off the imperfection, but he wanted me to pay to send it back. Here's how i see it: I have to pay an extra amount of money to send back a product that wasn't as advertised. He doesn't advertise decks as "slightly off rounded", so how am i being unreasonable? I have to pay a shipping fee to fix an issue that is the company's fault. Some of you might see it as a petty complaint, but i'm sure if you ordered something off of flatface and it came wonky, Mike would make it right i'm pretty dang sure... Also, my address was wrong on paypal and he sent it to the wrong address and it ended up getting forwarded from my previous address, no hassle to him at all. He reasoned that the imperfection equals out to me giving him the wrong address to ship the deck to, when in the end it didnt affect him in any way and i ended up getting the deck at my new address anyways without any part on him. I'm really not complaining for the heck of it, i just see this as slightly wonky customer service despite it being a small company. Am i being unreasonable/stupid? I paid for a deck i thought would be well crafted, not a blem deck with a shape imperfection. What do you think? Sorry for the long post, i promise it's not a complaint rather just a quizzical and confusing situation. If you guys as well indeed think i'm just complaining over nothing, i'll gladly drop it and just use the deck. The issue isn't me paying for the shipping to send it back, i have the two bucks to send it back, but rather the issue i'm trying to say is that i shouldn't have to in the first place. |

| Well, it can be easily fixed but it's really bad of the owner to send a deck like that in the first place and have it sent to the wrong addy. I'd be pissed too if I let's say bought a G14 and the deck was mishaped. Also what kind of respectable deck maker takes pride in sending less that perfect decks? |

| It can be easily fixed, but i was thinking that i shouldn't have to pay to get a deck fixed when i expected it to be perfect in the first place? I really am not trying to give him a hard time at all as i REALLY REALLY respect his company, and the work he does. You can definitely tell if you check out his instagram, i love his work. Sucks because this was my first purchase and i was SUPER STOKED about it, like seriously. I don't know, i don't want to be rude and try to bring the guy down or anything i promise i'm not trying to give his company a bad name. I swear, i have nothing but utmost respect for him as a deck maker but i just don't think this is right. And for clarification, it was my fault it got sent to the wrong address. My old address was on my paypal, but that's not an excuse because he didnt have to go through any extra trouble to get it to me, it was automatically forwarded from my old address, never had to hassle him at all for the issue. |

| Hmm....looks like too much was shaven off on one side, so to shave off more on the other side to match both sides would be a poor solution. Simple solution would be for you to get a new deck or money back Id say. This is what should be the faith of blem decks in my opinion, but hey....thats just me.. |

| How much did you pay for the deck? Also I've had instances where I've messed up on a deck that was shipped out but I definitely made things right and didnt make people pay for shipping. If anything I let them keep it and set a new one. I'd say you're in the right to be a little upset. |

| i follow the company on instagram too, and that deck does look like shit compared to others ive seen from him. being that his company is fairly new, if i were the owner i would pay to have the deck shipped back and then refund you or send you out a new deck. having a company means expecting to take a loss here or there but in order to gain customer satisfaction in the end. profit isnt everything.. i hope he sees this post and everyone backing you up because although it is a small complaint, it is shitty to expect something awesome and get something thats only "ehh" and then have the owner basically tell you to fuck off or give him money for his mistake. |

I paid 16 bucks shipped for it. Well, i'll wait until he sees the post or offers a solution but as of right now i've been told that i can pay for the postage and send it back and he says he can fix it, but like Bakko said, it wouldn't be the best solution to shave off the other side to make it even. I really hope he posts here because i just want a nice deck, that's all... - Joe Connelly wrote:

Well whatever "solution" he offered i don't think it's right which is why i chose to post this here. I really hope he sees this and posts a reply! edit: thank you to whoever condensed my posts, still kinda a fbhq newbie another edit: he messaged me on instagram quote orangewood.fbs: How do you know the board you have is shaped correctly ^in reference to the og i have in the picture for shape reference. |

| granted, every company rounds their kicks a bit differently, but you can tell in your pic that the rounding isnt equal on the left and right side. also the holes look a little fucky. if hes not gonna do anything about it, id sand it down and re-finish it |

if he refuses to do anything about it I would publicly call him out on instagram, get your money back and buy a decent deck made by a decent company.

| In contact with the owner again. After long negotiation, i'm sending the current yellow deck back and he's making me a custom.
Thanks for your opinions guys, it really helped a lot.
Also, it appears he doesn't use fbhq so don't expect any responses here from the company.

I thought Orangewood was just a bullshit company at first but I checked them out and their decks looked actually pretty good. But yeah, sucks that you got a bad one. Is he making you pay for shipping back? |

he uses an nfb mold which is the most professional mold you can get. and with that attitude, how can any other companies gain recognition and become a "bigger name"? that really isnt the best attitude to have in regards to buying decks/anything fb related. you gotta give the little guys a chance too |

| ahhh fbhq is just so much better than instagram. the respect and discussion on this forum and others like this is what made fingerboarding what it is, instagram seems to be hurting the scene with hype and fame. thanks for this thread i love seeing respect and understanding! |

| Yeah, that rounding does look a little off... glad you're getting it sorted out all fine! And definitely go into PayPal and make sure your default address is correct. Companies will send to the address PayPal gives them, so make sure yours is updated. It's sooo irritating to have packages forwarded (and sometimes lost) because of address issues, so I know how you feel! |

| Haha yea....Like what he said most of us peopleseses that make boards will fairly easily realize when we mess up on a deck, Imo, if I saw that I was making a deck that bad I would've snapped it and stomped on it and threw it several miles... I don't get it, how the hell do these insta kids sell like 1000s of decks that are improperly shaped with misaligned holes, get away with it, make money for pro molds that ACTUALLY COME WITH FRIKKIN SUPER STRONG CNCED TEMPLATES AND STILL CANT SHAPE A DECK..... wow, also cannot believe that he would make you pay for his mistake. So many other small companies with fantastic decks sell like 1 deck a year, then you have something like this on Instagram. Like wtf. But whatever, lesson well learned for you we all come across those |
