Soft wheels Empty
PostSubject: Soft wheels   Soft wheels EmptyFri Sep 12, 2014 7:26 pm

So I had this post a while back
http://www.fingerboardhq.net/t19171p15-rubber-bearing-wheels

The thing is I have still not found a set of soft wheels I am happy with.

I've found out that real skateboard wheels hardness are measured by a scale and most typical skateboard wheels are in the 'A' class The harder the wheel is the bigger the number. so for example most skateboard wheels are between 90A-100A, while longboard wheels are between 70A-80A.

I don't get why fingerboard wheel manufactures don't classify their wheels in this scale. It seems that no one is making these type of soft wheels (70-80A) and I think there would be a marked for it.

What do you guys think? Would you want some softer grippier nice sounding wheels as well? happy

the reason why is because if they used that softness polyurethane for example 100a your wheels would feel really squishy and grippy, too grippy and too squishy, plus they would dent super fast.

It's because most fb wheels are lathed.  Skateboard wheels are poured with custom materials.  I got something for ya guys if you want soft wheels;)

I've got a set of Y2 wheels and a set of Oaks and I find the Oaks to be much grippier on most surfaces. However it does seem to vary depending on the surface you're riding (ywheels are ridiculously grippy on metal, but much much less on marble, for example).

Personally, I would also welcome a much softer alternative. Oaks are fantastic in that they increase the realism of your riding due to the inability to push the board laterally, which means you HAVE to use proper turning, which is much more fun, BUT to my mind they are still not grippy enough.

Redemption, what?! what?!? WHAT!!!?!

@Filip Bronola - I think you got it mixed up... the higher the A-number the harder the wheel.

And to everybody recommending y-wheels thanks but they have been out of stock for quite a while + they are actually one of the only manufators who writes their wheels hardness 98A which is still a pretty hard wheel (if you dont compare it to plastic)

@Redemption - sounds intriguing! but cant se any wheels on you website... what hardness are the wheels you are talking about and do you make them yourself?

@Concept - glad im not riddin solo on this one! and yes maybe I was not clear enough. Oaks, yWheels, winklers are great and all each for their own special purposes, but we need this soft wheel alternative! happy

PostSubject: Re: Soft wheels   Soft wheels EmptyTue Nov 11, 2014 7:35 am

Just wanted to do an update.
I've bought some ywheels ol'schools (see picture). They are of a softness Shore 80A. They feel really great and are pretty close to the feel I was looking for. The down side is, that they only come in ol'school shape and one color and I've tried them on BRT, TD, TDLB and TDP but they roll poorly compared to oaks or even TDP wheels.
Does anyone know if they only work with yTrucks?
Here's a link to where you can buy them ( http://www.yellowoodstore.com/wheels/prod/499 )
And here's a picture of my setup

Cheers

lol
roll poorly compared to oaks?
you me freespin? or they way the feel under your fingers?
y-wheels are for y-trucks
these are made to work on them
personally I find y-wheels amazing!!! and i have no idea what your looking for.. the only thing softer is the old school wheels i got from ebay and sadly they dont exsist anymore. they are so soft you cant powerslide on ANYTHING untill the mold release breaks in on the wheels just like longboard wheels.

there is a big open space in the fingerboard world for some more wheel options
ive been praying someone starts making wheel options like we have for skateboards.. size, shape, and durometer. all this plastic hype is poop..

They might work for brt's if you pop the outer bearing out. I did that for my dualw's

@Trent Witcher - They roll poorly freespin - feels good - but would feel even better if the had the same spin as Oaks.
Which old schools do you have that you can't get any more?
I completely agree - Dont know like the plastic wheels and Oaks or yWheels should make different types of shape and softness - at least yWheels are doing now, hopefully there is more to come maybe even shore 70A:) -

@Tomé Martins - ahhh man, I can't get myself to fuck up my new wheels like that, I'll just buy some yTrucks happy

@ Woob - Thats pretty harsh and also not very insightful... Why do you think they are bullshit? I bought these because they were the only bearing wheels I could find that were softer than shore 98A. And I think the material of the wheel is great, the finish could be better though...

You won't fuck them up the bearing goes out so easily and you can just put it back on place but it's your choice

I never understood the reactions to thread bumps, but anyway...

Closeup bearing wheels are an amazing material but the mold lines and shitty bearings mean they're pretty much unusable. Closeup have now moved to lathed China wheels which is a massive let down, oaks still seem the softest on the market :/

Wow.......this thread died nearly a year ago Louie. Please, pretty please with sugar and all, leave old threads alone if you have no new valid content to post. The guy hasnt even been on the forums since Thu Nov 27, 2014!! Suspect

Also, sales and trades on this forums should be done by using the dedicated buy/sale/trade thread. Regard this as a warning. Any more of this mindless bumps and be expecting a ban..
