I made a thread for my bowl build, so you guys could follow the progress and pick up some techniques and tips. It was a pretty popular thread so I decided to make this one, I'm starting a park build. This is a rough sketch up of what the setup of the park will most likely be. (I'm open to any suggestions for changes anybody may have too.) The obstacle that looks like a fun box is a planter ledge. I'm using two large sections of 1 inch thick styrofoam insulation, 8x3 feet. This is the step up to double set section of the park that I'm starting with. The stairs aren't drawn in this photo yet. Now to cut out 5 layers of the styrofoam. Stay tuned and like I said if you have any suggestions I'm definitely down to hear them.

I cut out and glued the layers together, using weldbond To shape the bank for the step up, once the glue dried, I used a box cutter extended out all the way and sawed off the squared edges. I measured and cut out chicken wire to cover the styrofoam. Fencing nails work great to hold it down, they're small U shaped nails. I went over the nails and wire with glue. Next step is to set up some walls for the concrete to settle into.

Thanks man I think it'll be pretty sick when it's done. I just used a box cutter with the blade out all the way, and cut on an angle. The barrier walls for the concrete mold, I used a strong cardboard covered with packaging tape so it doesn't soak in any of the water from the concrete. Before taping I measure 1.5cm down from the edge of the cardboard and drew a line. That's how deep the mold will be. I then use screws to hold the cardboard up against the stairs, each screw an inch apart. I also tape where the pieces of cardboard meet up It's a good idea to screw some screws into the styrofoam and leave just a bit of the heads sticking out. This allows the concrete to form around the screws and have something to hold onto the styrofoam. Otherwise you just have a layer of concrete on top and you run the risk of the concrete lifting.

Thanks everybody!! It's definitely coming along very smoothly aside from my friend hitting the bottom step with a pool cue and it breaking off lol, fixed it up fairly easily though. I've used type 10 powder base concrete quite a bit in the past and I've figured out the best consistency. It settles very well, you don't want it very watery, you want it clumpy but all of it to be wet. Spreadable with a metal spatula, and a technique I use to ensure that its all even and flat, I shake it. Goes into every corner and this always surfaces any bubbles that may be hiding. I left the concrete for 10 hours or so and as you can see, I was left with a perfectly flat and nicely cornered concrete step. All it will need is a light sanding.
