| My parents aren't as supporting when it comes to my fingerboarding so all they want to buy me is a Tech Deck Competition Series. I was wondering, are there any cheap ways at which I can improve my deck? Like smoother wheels, or home-made griptape, thanks very much if you reply! |

| I don't think wooden TDs are even good for beginners, the kicks are just too low and small. My suggestion would probably be to scour sales and get used products. |

| Hi, I'm new to this forum, but I understand your problem, as I've been there too... Well, my advice is pretty much the same as other advices, get a wooden deck as soon as you can. A good deck worth every penny (or whatever your currency is ) Meanwhile, there are some videos on youtube you can watch, for tuning and making tech deck more fun to play with, ie: - If it's plastic (not wooden tech deck), you can make the kick higher. Use a gas lighter to heat around the line where the flat deck start to turn upward. Heat it until it's soft (and smells of plastic burning ) While it's soft (still hot), bend it to the angle you like. Be careful though, don't overheat it or stay in the same spot to long. You can ruin the graphic and possibly the plastic as well. And you can't repeat this over and over again (ie. you don't like the previous angle, and want to reshape it again), the plastic could become 'weak' and breaks easily. Notice the angle of the tail is very steep compared to the nose - Take off the trucks, and put a piece of thin cardboard paper (like the one in cereal boxes) in between the baseplate and the deck. The cardboard acts as a 'riser' to make the deck a little higher, supposedly to give more pop. Of course you have to cut it according to the size of the baseplate, and punch 4 holes accordingly. I used thumb tack to punch the holes. - The bushings are crap too. I use 'leather' bushing. It happens that I have an old leather buckle belt, and the thickness is more or less the same as the thickness of the TD bushings. So I cut it in little squares, punch a hole in the middle using thumb tack. It maybe a little difficult to screw these in the kingpin, but I'm sure you'll manage Oh, and I use two bushing below the hanger, and no bushing on top. It made my deck higher. The white arrow is the 'cardboard riser'. Also notice, I have two bushing below the hanger, and nothing above - Go to an appliance or handycraft store, and look around for foamy material. Maybe in auto section. Find one that's not too thick (about 1-2mm should do), to make foamtape for your techdeck. Just cut it according to your deck's shape, and tape it with doble-tapes. You can peel off the original foamtape with a sharp pointed cutter knife. Alternatively, you can buy a real foamtape from your local fingerboard manufacturer. They shouldn't be too expensive. - As for the wheels, well techdeck's wheels sucks big time I'd recommend buying a set of bearing wheel. They're a hugeeee improvement compared to techdeck wheels. But, if you're still stuck with TD wheels, put a few drop of machine oil (transparent, much like water, but very oily) on each wheel, and let it sit for about 30 seconds. After that, take off the wheels, and wipe them with paper towel. The axles and the axle hole in the wheels should remain smooth and oily. Well, that's pretty much I know (and done) to modify a techdeck, ghetto style...

I'm sorry, I'm not from around UK. What's a 'holden'? I was just trying to help the thread starter. I've been there, when I was just trying something new (which is fingerboarding), and didn't want to spend much money on a new thing before I'm sure I'd like it. Having tried it (techdecks), I was ready to spend more on wooden decks. Here are my decks now: And of course wooden decks are wayyyyy better than techdecks |

| "What's a Holden"
Holden, when you're trying to make yourself not sound like Holden, don't use the same quote twice. You've used "What's a Holden" before, remember?
And when you're photoshopping someone else's boards, make sure you black out the logo of THEIR company on the grip.
Take what we say into consideration and then you'll be a Successful Troll. |

Not exactly, I'm not a fingerboard manufacturer nor a seller, and I don't have any brand. Actually I'm a photographer for a living, and those pictures were taken at my studio - HarryYeates wrote:

Take what we say into consideration and then you'll be a Successful Troll. Actually you really lost me there. I just joined this forum a few hours ago, and this is my 4th post. 3 on this thread (including this one), and the other is in the 'tips for kickflip''. So I really don't understand, when could I possibly said (or quote) 'what's a holden' before my 3rd post? About the company logo, did you mean the 'planktoon' writing in the middle deck, written in blue? Well, planktoon is the local fingerboard manufacturer in the country where I live, much like flatface, 4 corner, berlinwood, etc. If I bought it legally, do I still need to erase the writing when I take picture of the deck? The photo was taken by me, of my own decks. 'Creatip Art' is my photo's watermark (notice my nickname is creatip as well). Here, I'll prove it: Some of the decks are not exactly the same, as I've done some tweaking and modification (foamtape, wheels, trucks, etc) from my last photo (the one before this post). One of them doesn't even have the wheels installed yet... I don't know if that's enough or not, though.... Oh well, it doesn't take a genius to see that I'm not welcome here. Thanx for the replies though, I'm outta here....

| I believe you it's just a ton of people have been jumping on people and calling them holden because he's been making a lot of accounts recently so people tend to think any new member is holden. It's a bit silly in my opinion. |
