Cyclone Syndrome 3 (through the eyes of me)
Pre-sesh
Did the most hyped UK fingerboard event of all time live up to all the hype? if you want a one word answer, then yes. it really really did.
The journey began on Thursday at 5am. after 3-4 hours on the coach I finally rocked up at Shudehill Interchange in Manchester. Was due to meet thom at 9-10 so quickly nipped to costcutters and grabbed a bacon and egg sandwhich (bacon and egg sandwhich's became the official food of the event i think).
At around 10am I met with the legend that is Thom Mcinally, it'd been a couple years since i met the guy but he was just as chill as i remembered/ expected him to be. We had a search for a couple of outdoor spots and some mini sesh's and then met up with Eddie. Eddie wasn't too hard to spot, we just had to look for the only guy in the the whole of England who'd made the bold choice to wear shorts on that day.
we made our way back to eddies car and my optimistic boast of "don't worry about there being no room in the car, i can fit underneath the big mini" was about to be tested.
I squeezed into the small footwell next to the backseats and we were on our way to harrys. the 4 jumpers and coat i was wearing were really quite hot and when we arrived at harry's i wasn't feeling tooooo well.
i promptly sat on a wall outside harrys house and threw up (twice). we then went and knocked on harry's door, only to be greeted by an old man who had no idea who harry was (and i assume even less idea why we were searching for a 13 year old boy, or why i'd just thrown up next to his front garden).
With that mornings bacon sandwhich out of my system, we re-located harry's house and were once again on our way. this time we'd found the right place and i think we were all quite relieved. we were warmly greeted by harry (the perfect host) and harry's mum who was just brilliant (very trusting and happy to let us all get on with our own things!). Harry buzzed as the big mini was brought in to his house and his enthusiasm for the whole day was really great to watch... amazing stuff.
For a while, the 3 of us happily seshed the big mini, thoms amazing ledge and harry's street course. After a couple of hours Danny Hynam and Jonny Sivel turned up and the seshing continued. Danny and Jonny were great to meet again too, both very funny and some great skills on the fingerboards too.
Eddie and Thom left harry's to pick up Kerry, Anna and Ross. A Few hours later they returned and everyone really met everyone for the first time, much fun, laughs and jokes were had. FBing on the whole was discussed and it was just great to finally talk to these people you've seen online for over a year in most cases. As a group we left for Mcdonalds/KFC and got some 'chicken'.
After that we were about ready to call it a night and the pre sesh was over. Back to the hotel (very groggy) and then got a little more groggy (by choice) and played some grand theft auto. Damn Me for forgetting to bring Skate3. Just as we all started to fall asleep, WillD arrived and said "hello"... His journey to the event sounded like a right mission! We all fell asleep and the sesh was over.
The Day Of the Event.
judgement day rolled around and everyone was buzzing. There wasn't a huge amount of room in the car so Thom, Ross and I decided to walk to the event... slightly more of a walk than any of us expected i think!
Ross (the owner of Blosom Decks) was a fantastic guy to meet. very sociable and funny and just a very comfortable guy to be around and Im pretty sure at one point or another this was echoed by every person who went.
After an hour or so we turned up at the event and walked in to the crowded room.
Lot's of familiar faces. Although i didn't say hello to everyone I spoke to lots of people and the good vibes were buzzing through the room. Was great to see people enjoying watching others sesh and lots of people filming and taking photos. Compared to Ukr1 (which had a max attentance of 10) this was the fingerboarding mecca. around 30 people had turned up and everyone just seemed to be having such a good time.
The event was over far too quickly and it felt like we were leaving as soon as we'd arrived, but time really does fly when you're having fun, right?!
After the event, Xi, Eddie, Euan, Finn, Ross, Tom colbert, Charlie Murray, Danny Hynam, Jonny sivel, Thom, Kerry, Anna, WillD and myself went to the trafford centre for some more seshing.
Xi is quite new to fbhq. really glad to have met him, like Eddie, he was very generous to offer people a lift and it was really appreciated by everyone. Was really great to meet an older guy who was willing to put the miles in to come to the event despite no really knowing anyone before going... legend.
As a large group we found a nice area and some free seats and happily seshed for what must have been a good 2-3 hours. some people had a brief intermission in the arcades and we realised that Eddies the man to bring with you to the carnival... someone who can shoot 34 baskets on one of those basket ball things in 30 seconds should frankly be knighted.
From there we went back to the hotel and seshed for quite a long time. Xi was ripping the microminis with tricks no one had seen before and generally everyone just made the most of the time that we all had left. WillD was ripping it on a little gap to grind challenge we had set up (as was Thom), and i think we probably did that challenege for about an hour! (Eddie nailed the set trick first go...
)
Everyone had a good laugh and i think everyone was also pretty tired!
The night came to a close and we all turned in. Will and I said good night to Bob Marley and that was that!
This was a very special event which, in my eyes, totally lived up to all the hype it had around it.
Massive special thanks to Harry and his Mum. Perfect hosts who strived to make everyone comfortable and happy, you certainly suceeded in doing that!
I've left a lot of stuff out but will defo add to this if i can think of more to say soon!
THANKS AGAIN! PEACE!
