I just wanted to post this cause I really need some positivity in my life right now.
My Birthday was actually yesterday and thanks to Labrador fb for acknowledge it.

My b day was ruined by an argument between me and my uncle that ended in me spouting off "you don't make decisions for me your not my dad"! Which hurt him deeply, I could see it. My uncle was the only family to take me in after my mom died. Not really sure what I'm expecting from you guys and girls, but he had to leave for a business trip today. I have been trying to contact him all day, but he hasn't replied any advice would be good.

well. happy belated birthday anyway....i wasn't online yesterday so i didn't know...

and people always say stuff to hurt the ones they love. im sure your uncle knows this

just say sorry for what you said when you see him next

damn man, that sucks, but like blosom said.. sometimes people say things they really don't mean at all..
specially when they are angry... call it verbal diarrea?

just talk with your uncle and really explain to him that you sometimes say things you don't mean, hope all goes well man

Really, cause I'm at my wits end. I thought about after I said it like how could you say that to him of all people, but at the same time thinking he'll just yell at me later. Imagine my surprise when I walked pass his study later in the attempt to peek in and ask if I could speak with him for a minute to find for the first time in years the door was closed.

I tried to listen in cause my uncle is a very private person when it comes to his feelings. I swore I heard him crying. This is a shock to me considering I have never seen this man cry since I've known him. Maybe a tear or 2 of joy when he got married. Then the next morning he was gone to the city on business.

I am really worried what this will do to our relationship, although I am sorry for what I said I still want to move out on my own. Which for the record is what started the whole ordeal. But seriously thanks for the insight and I hope to get more. He'll be home on Sunday, so I will update this then.

I haven't really been online for the past few days, it's weird, but I've actually been reading a book for once haha, so I didn't see that it was your birthday. Happy belated birthday! I can't exactly give you any advice though, cuz I've never been in any of these situations myself.

Like Blosom said, we generally hurt the ones we love the most. If you honestly believe he might have been crying, he may feel bad or sympathetic that you don't see him as a father figure. But you said that you didn't mean that. So I'd just keep trying to get ahold of him, people are always pressed for time on business trips. Once you do just explain to him that you didn't mean what you said, you were just frustrated. I'm sure he'll understand. Everyone says things they don't mean when they're upset

Explain to your uncle your reasons behind the argument, help him see why things got heated if you remain calm, and on a level, he should see your point or atleast your view of things.
Dude I moved out at 19 to live 100 miles away with my GF, and my mum still calls me up to see what I had for dinner etc etc!! parents or influential figures in your life will continue to see you as someone to look out for once you move out, it's force of habit/ second nature to them.

^That is basically exactly what I would have said. Except I moved out at 20, haha
