| You just bought a mac becuz it was the most expensive shit you could find. Something that is expensive does not mean that it's automatically the best.

| PC's are more common to virus's, and normally screw them up.
With MAC's they shut down completely and clear the virus and turn's back on, takes about 15 seconds. Saving you time and money. |

| No offence, but the people that dont like Macs are the people that cant afford it. Im not being a cocky bastard, im just stating facts. My friend, Will Brege. He HATED macs, he hopes the company would die out. Then he got enough money to get a new laptop, so he tried a macbook air, then bought it. He is now obsessed with mac and doesnt like Windows. Same with Joe Ronnie. Hates macs, bought a macbook, cant get enough. Also, people in the famiry, my brothers friends, and even my teachers did the same. - Ironfingers wrote:
- there cheaper, easier to upgrade and can do everything a mac can do
Thats the shit of the bull. Have you seen how easy it is to upgrade a mac pro, mini, iMac etc? Plus can Windows run mac WITHOUT any hacks? No. Also, Mac's house some of the most powerful laptops you can buy. Basically, the reason my macs are better: 1) Hardly any viruses are caught, and when they are, you dont get spammed with spy ware saying "OMG YOU COMPUT3RRR HAS THE AIDZ". When it does catch a virus, it grey screens, shuts down and wipes it. Then it restarts, opening all your last windows. Also, its auto saves whatever you were working on at the time (I know, because I was editing Anywhere, it auto saved, then re opened it) 2)Easy to use. Also, macs are so simple that they dont need to be complicated to work well. The general layout is clean and simple. It works, and it works well. 3) Honestly, Macs just look amazing. No justting out edges or needless bumps details. Just simple and sexy. 4) No blue screen of death. Granted, there is a grey screen of death, but that only happens once in a blue moon. Also, when it does happen, even the crash screen looks nicer and in simple to understand. 5) No useless pop ups (adware, spyware, random stuff for virus checking etc) 6) Macs are extremelly powerful, more powerful that most any windows laptop. Even the macbook air is more powerful than any dell laptop. 7) Cheaper in the LONG RUN. You dont have to continuously fix it every day, get a new processor or graphics card. The OS is cheaper aswell (Windows 7 home premium: £89.99, OSX Lion: £20.99) 8.) Macs are a SHIT LOAD faster than any Windows computer. 9) Helpful troubleshooting. 10) Generally, they are simple and contain even more features than any windows computer. That my opinion. Dont quote me and say "your wrong in every way". P.S: Honestly, the only reason I would buy a Windows over a mac is if I only wanted to play Crysis or Far cry for the rest of my life. |

| I cba reading a fuck ton of pages of this thread.. You cant argue the hardware is cheaper than windows, because its not. You cant argue you don't have to upgrade macs, because computing as an industry evolves ALL the fucking time. New technologies come out which require new hardware IF you want to be 100% on top. I had my last pc for 10 YEARS, I'd hardly call that a short life. Macs aren't really faster, that depends on the specs. Get me a beefed up sandy bridge i7 pc (if only I could afford one, haha..) running windows 7 and I'm sure it'd keep up with a mac of similar spec. Ultimately IT DEPENDS WHAT YOU HAVE RUNNING ON IT. Here's the thing that I think makes the difference : More people can afford PCs, so more people get them. That thus includes the stupid people who genuinely believe they're the 'SELECTED WINNER U WIN A PRIEZ LOL' and click shit and get viruses. Macs would fail just as bad at the hands of an idiot. There may be less mac viruses, but only because less people use them. That's not the mac being specificially better, thats people who want to scam people realising it better to scam stupid people, as there's more chance it'll work. And to further that, more stupid people, even without viruses, clog their PCs with shitty software and they go slow. If there was such a range of software on macs, and they were affordable for idiots, I'm sure they'd run just as bad. People need to look at PCs of people who know how to use them vs macs of people who know how to use them, not the whole picture. Because there's no even spread. Macs are good at video editing and things like that, largely due to a lot of originally platform build software. Now its on windows too, and a decent PC will run them almost as well. But then macs cant do some things well that windows can do, so, its pretty even. I prefer my PC because it was affordable, its very good spec, and it can do everything I need it to do and more, easily. AND.. can people stop comparing mac os and its awesomeness to windows 98? I haven't seen a blue screen in SOO long, except for like, changing something in the BIOS, and obviously that's supposed to be blue because that's before windows has turned on. They're both good, I just don't like mac. I don't like how all apple products seem to have some kind of status symbol to them, just like ipods, iphones, ipads, etc, etc. And also how half the general public seem to think apple invented the mp3 player and the tablet pc just because all they've heard of are ipad and ipod. Finally.. the only people I know who've 'switched' to macs run windows on their macs and use it all the time. I fail to see the benefit there, except, oh, wait, status symbol. If you like mac, enjoy it, but I'll happily disagree with you. I suppose you'll happily (or perhaps not) disagree with me |

| I never talked about that. I never said that Macs were cheaper. They are cheaper in the long run. Plus, Macs can do everything a Windows can do, and more. I never talked about upgrading macs. Macs are faster. Much faster. Also, stop calling windows PC's. PC means Personal Computer, which can go for anything.
By the way Kerry, I dont have a mac because i'm a hipster, I have one because they are powerful machines that can do anything. You have two screens for your computer, why? Why do you need two "except, oh, wait, status symbol." |

Could you explain how they're cheaper in the long run? And could you explain what they can do more than windows can? I'm not going to dispute what you say if you make a valid point, I just don't know what you're on about. - Toebex wrote:

I wasn't calling everyone who has a Mac a hipster or saying they do it to look cool, I merely meant there are a lot of people who get them to look cool. If someone was doing professional video editing and used windows I'd honestly wonder what drug they were on. But, seriously, I have two screens for a status symbol do I? Do you have any idea how much easier editing is with two screens? Or coding/programming, which if you don't know I did at A level and then university. Or just doing anything really? Playing a game and having google on the other screen, anything like that. Its useful. I don't see why you'd need to be soo defensive and suggest I have two screens to be 'cool', its like you just tried to pick something I have and be negative about it. Infact for someone like yourself who does video editing, extremely well, I'm surprised you cant see a use for two screens. |

He says they're cheaper in the long run because you won't have to keep on buying new parts? Am I right Rory? |

| My mate has a PowerBook from 12 years ago, it's still going strong, Windows laptops have an average life span of 5 years? That's cheaper instantly.
Better support in terms of, go to an apple store, get it fixed, leave, no need to wait for a call centre to bounce you back and forth.
I've just come back from a summer school at Preston University actually, and we were getting used to the IT systems yesterday. New computers and all that, and i got blue screened for scrolling down a large webpage page of just text.. |
