Hello, this is my first post on this forum, so here it goes!

Okay I'm only eleven so I can't really blow fifty bucks on some fingerboard so I was wondering........since I have a few tech decks, I've seen their competition series. Soooooo I was wondering, w their plastic or wood competition series be good for purchasing? Just for a beginner like me?
And I'm sorry to put to random thoughts in one post. but whatever, so whenever I try to ollie I push the end of the board down and when I slide my finger to the front of the board it just hits the front of the board back on the ground and I haz no luck in olliez. Any helpful advice? When I go on youtube everyone just say pop the end of the board up, level your finger and OMG i haz olliez! But thats not the case with me.

Relax your fingers a bit on your ollie, your probably driving the deck down too hard with your fingers..

As for the deck issue a td is fine till you can save a bit of money, I've yet to try the wooden tds but I hear they are quite good..

Check out somewhere like 4cfb they do budget decks and completes that are solid for a beginner

To answer your first question- if you have $50 to spend, I wouldn't buy a tech deck. If you were looking for something cheaper, I'd look at Redemption, Maze, and Owood. Here are their websites:

If you don't mind spending $25-$35 on a deck, you can check out http://www.flatfacefingerboards.com/ they bave amazing quality decks from all different brands

And as for ollies, just keep practicing. Try to ollie on to a cd case over and over- once you have that down add another cd case.

Thanks for the help guys, I didn't mean I had 50 bucks to spend, just I didn't want to spend that kind of money on a decent fingerboard. I got the competition series wood Tech Deck, and I'm working on my ollies using your tips.

When you ollie. dont think about sliding JUST your front finger,slide the whole hand, in a sense.

I don't think those Competition Series boards are actually that great. I haven't tried the newest ones though.

I have a Wood Competition Series TD and although the wood is nice, the deck has kicks which are too low and too short. Even I would find it hard to do tricks on.

Well I'm thinking of either saving my money and buying one of the less expensive decks listed above, or possibly attempt to make my own deck, and mimick the shape of a G12

Welcome. I would not recommend a competition series but if that's all you got and you hip hoppin' by a walmart or target, go for it. Unless your rents let you buy from FF. Then get a g12 complete.

If I had any prototypes or any decks in stock I would atleast give you a deck for free but unfortunately I don't.

learn by sitting down and ollieing on your thigh. then you get the feel of the momentum minus the difficultie. after doing this on and off for awhile try ollieing up something it's easier then just ollieing flat for some reason when your learning. I've tought alot of people to ollie this way.

Ok have you bought a wooden deck? or? lol.

Glad it helped. you dont need a wooden deck just buy bushings, riptape or fbs extra smooth from Flatface.com and throw it on a tech deck and you wont know the diffrence since your new it would be silly to spend money on a nice set up.

I already got my Wood Competition TD so....... Also Forgiven Fingerboards offered to give me a board if they ever have any extra or prototypes

Mmk, so for the best td so far take compeition wheels and trucks and put them on the tech deck plastic, then put the 'pro' grip on it and ride that. There wood boards are nearly flat. Although I would save up & mabe buy from 4 cfb. Gr8 reviews, and it would be an investment bc out of the 4 td comp. series I have had, all of the trucks have broke or wheels fallen off except 1 of them, which I have lightly used. They are made to break. So a 4cfb would be an investment!
Now on to ollies. Start on your couch/ bed. It'll be easy to get air& fun bc u can do something. Then, go on to a table and jump onto books. Just use the same method u used on the chair, etc. Also , u dont really need to slide with an Ollie, just push and right before it hits the surface lift your hand. This takes timing, and timing takes practice. Also, fingerboarding is slot about wrist movement so don't forget to do that too. Next catch it in the air and land.
After that , other tricks will come much easier.
Rember if it was easy it wouldn't be fun.
Also , don't give up bc u can't do an Ollie , it took me forever too.
And better boards won't help with Ollie fundimentals. It helps with landing and getting them high, not getting them up so don't think it's your board

I've heard ollieing (sp?) is sometimes easier to learn by practicing them vertically on a wall, so you kinda get the feel for it.

Hello, I personally used TD wood series as my first wooden fingerboard before. It's easier to do ollie on that one compared to the the plastic ones. but the grip tape that comes with it is easy to deteriorate. I think it's good enough for beginners. Then switch to a better fingerboard when you have the money.

As for ollie, I learned it by watching Gary Chin tutorial video. That video is very effective. And yeah try to relax your fingers while doing it. I know it's frustrating but I like what he said "No matter how low your air is, It's still an ollie." Just put effort on it and when you get the motion its just a piece of cake to do ollie. And I also recommend if you want to gain more height practice ollie to a single CD/DVD case and when you got it try adding some more. Keep always in your mind that. "Never ever give up."
