How much money do YOU think Mike has made since the beginning of flatface? (PROFIT) There is no way for us to know, but lets try and calculate something here!

maybe not as much as we think. he has to restock products every now and then, pay for equipment and materials (ex: wheels), pay machinists (not really sure of the proper name) to produce decks and wheels because he can't just to that all by himself, his parents must manage the bills of the company, pay to keep the site running, and lots more. hey, i may be wrong and he might actually be making buttloads.

Very true. But when you think about the price he puts on his products, he might be making quite a bit of profit. I guess the true question we need the answer to is how he produces his boards and wheels. All the other stuff is simple, he's just the middle man (with BRR for example) and I'm sure he makes money off of that as well, without any loss of money.

Why would he pay machinists? He's got all the tools he needs to make decks and everything. I think we would all be surprised to fin out Mike's gross income over the years

Mike makes the decks and wheels, he doesn't have machinist. I know it's hard to believe but if you know what do it's fairly easy to make a big stock. I make decks so i know and I use to own a company. You need time, put love and care into each piece of work, and have good tools

And he has to make the decks he can't have other people make them for him then resell them.

I was talking more along the lines of him with a group of people making decks together. Not him having people build them somewhere else, ship them then sell them. It would make much more sense from a productivity point of view. If Mike's company has gotten this big, I'm sure he's smart enough to now know how to turn his company into a productive and profitable company, which would without a doubt include other people (he would be much more productive in terms of the number of products he can sell and make a ton of money).

Ah I get it now, So your saying that Mike should recruit some people to help him get more decks available so it can save some time? Like some of his close friends to help him make up some decks that live around his area?

I'm still a little fuzzy on the profit thing,

I know for sure that when Mike started making wheels, he had a mechanist making them.

And i think i red somewhere that the decks would be manufactured somewhere else aswell.. But he still does a lot of work in designing the products, testing materials and so on.

I think he makes enough money to call himself professional. But in the end, why do you care?

He's just wondering how much profit Mike get's from Flatface, but we seemed to have turned it deeper.

I think he makes quite a lot of profit because he started selling wheels/decks years ago so whatever he spent in starting flatface must've been paid off already unless someone else makes his products like his wheels.

he gets his wheels made by a local machinist person with a lathe iirc, then probably doesn't assemble them himself, I think he employs like 5+ local people, one being his mum.

Still, he's really chill from what I hear and deserves all this money, so why is it an issue people feel they can discuss? Seems a bit of a personal thing to me. Moving this to off topics, its not really fingerboard discussion.

He must make a fair profit.

Just thought it would be interesting because I am sure that are people here that are interested in starting their own companies. Threads like this can encourage them. And I don't really understand why the fact that he deserves this money would be a problem for us to discuss about it. Its a reality and feel its ok for us to discuss about it.

who cares how much he makes??? i know all the jealous people natter about how rich he must be, but if you guys knew the reality you would stop tongue waggling about it.

he runs or his mom runs a legitimate business. he pays taxes. he sponsors everything. he is a nice generous guy.

he makes enough to get by.

if he made the sort of money you all think he makes he would have quit fingerboarding long ago and be a coked up Ferrari driver....but he hasn't. he still pushes fingerboarding in the right direction. we all owe alot to HIM.

Uhm.. If you start a fingerboard company to make money, you might aswell close it from the start.
The reason to open up a company should be one or more of the following:
- Because you enjoy creating the product.
- Because you want to push fingerboarding in a certain direction.
- Because you can make something that not many others can.

If you make a company for the money, you will most likely end up with products of compromised quality.

Your putting words in my mouth lol. I didn't say that you should start a
company because of the money. What I'm saying is you can get encouraged
by the money. You start a company because you believe in your product.
The money can be your goal. There is nothing wrong with that because you
still believe in fingerboarding. On top of all things if someone is seriously looking at
turning it into a career, considering the money is something they really
need to look at. Once again, I'm not saying that you should start a
company because of the money aspect.

once its about the money it becomes a job. when it is a job it is no fun.

i make fingerboards as i enjoy doing it, and bringing something to the table made from my own hands that is quality is something worthwhile in my eyes.

money is nice though, but only when you know you have earned it, and what your selling is worth it.

you know what matters?: hundreds of kids enjoying his products and generally: fingerboarding.

yeah he does make profit from it, but he deserves it.
