Hey guys, i am new to fbing and have a couple questions. Hell, I didnt even know you could actually do tricks with these things. I thought they were only good for putting a hole through them and making them a keychain. Over the years I have always picked up Toy Machine or Hook-ups or Alien just because I thought they looked cool. I ended up picking up a Toy Machine one recently made of wood with some kinda foam tape. Went to the tech deck website to see if they had any other Toy Machine graphics and saw that you can infact do tricks.

I dont know why I never realized that before. But back to the reason im posting. Im trying to learn to ollie and about 1/3 of the time the come out like an ollie and the rest of the time im kick flipping or a jankity hard flip. I can ollie onto an object (3 maybe 4 inches) fairly consistently but the are kinda ugly. Should I just keep on trying to go over objects or should i just ollie stationary till i get it down consistently? Im assuming the motions are pretty much the same as skating just with your fingers.

I am able to land pressure flips consistently, was able to hit em right off the bat, can even pressure flip to manual no problem, which is kinda weird seeing as an ollie is giving me some trouble.

Anyways, this stuff is pretty fun. Gives me something to do in the winter now if I dont want to jump on a train to hit an indoor park. Mind you this year it hasnt snowed here at all so have been able to ride.

Hey. It's great that you're getting into fingerboarding. Ollies are actually quite a difficult trick to learn when first starting out so well done for managing them, you should definitely keep fingerboarding if you've learned ollies. As for techniques, just keep doing all sorts of ollies and you will eventually find it natural.

I did loads of pressure flips when I started out too. That was before I realised normal flip tricks were possible on fingerboards. I even taught a girl to pressure flip on a TD.

The advantage of being a skateboarder too is that you can work out how tricks work. Use the knowledge to your advantage and tricks should come pretty easy for you. You should also watch some fingerboard videos just to see how people use their fingers.

Welcome to FBHQ/Fingerboarding, just take your deck to school/work, practice makes perfect!

The best thing that helped me learn ollies was practicing on my leg.

You get more leverage, and you can practice by popping the board up and flipping it upside down.

Eventually, practice it on flat ground, practice popping it upside down. Once you can do that, you should be able to get your ollies better.

Just like skateboarding, it takes some time to get your flow.

I suggest you check out some Tech Deck official tutorials... They may be old, but they have quite a lot to offer, a lot of people just seem to forget that.

Practicing with your leg is also a great thing to do, helps with position, timing, and pop.
