I may seem biased on this subject, but people saying this shit seem to have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. We live in a world that is ruled by the free market. In this market, competition only benefits the consumers. The more competition there is, the better prices become for the consumer. Not only that, but with more competition companies must differentiate themselves with new innovative products and ideas. These evil "ebay molds" (that were created by the devil himself) can also influence the next potential huge deckmaker to introduce something new to the scene. The only people they are hurting are the deckmaking companies. This will cause them to lower prices or create a better product to be more competitive. If someone can come up with a reason to why this is NOT a good thing, id be interested in reading it. So many people have negative attitudes and hate towards the idea of new companies sprouting up. The funny thing is that the collective views of the community are completely ass backwards when compared to the rest of the world. The death of the small, specialized family owned businesses due to large corporations is a negative thing in the real world. Meanwhile in the fingerboarding community, most people are pushing towards a small number of large companies completely dominating the market. Suport the real scene, right? The real scene died a long time ago. Back in those times the community was dominated by small companies. You literally had 20 different active company threads in the forums. I think this discussion deserves its own thread. Sorry for the essay. |

We dont quit, we just keep our fingerboarding private and not film or hang on the forums. I took some time away from the online scene and to be honest... i enjoyed fingerboarding so much more. Not saying anyone should just hop off the forums, but, a little time off from them does you good. - Colin Zwirner wrote:

To be honest... all the new amazing products mean nothing if the company has no personality. Which A LOT of companies lack. They build, they create... but theyre so very bland. No team videos, no expression, no nothing. All the split plies in the world dont equate to personality. Its just something people want to buy. Its meh. The disadvantage of fingerboarding getting bigger? A status-quo. Tricks, products, filming.. it reaches a standard which doesnt actually help creativity but forces everyone to do it "the way everyone else does" to "be accepted by the cool kids". You know what happens when theres a "right way" to do things? Attempt to be different. Go on, i dear you. |

Ya, that Motive mold thread on ffi kinda pissed me off when Colin said "Nobody cares about unique shaped decks anymore"...it got me thinking though, It's like skateboarding anymore ...same shape different graphics/gimmics.
I hate that statement because it's true.

Even though i said that, it isnt what i support. If i were to bring back Motive, i would try to stray away from the cliche/annoying skateboard shape. It really sucks that you can put every major companies decks side by side and they all look the same. Also.. I think the skateboard-ish shapes perform like ass compared to the old prete/BW shapes. |

To me, this is a good thing, and I'm not sure if its true. If prices generally go up, then it will be easier and more affordable to have a cheap decks company going. Edit: But then again, we have seen this before. I remember when good decks were only $10. |
