| anyway, in the past 2 hours ive been getting popups and bubbles from 'vista defender' which is the windows vista anti virus? it says i have 28 different spyware viruses and that my files are currently being deleted and information is being stolen, it says i have to activate it to delete these viruses, also says 'or scan for free' i clicked scan for free and it told me i had to activste it, it costs to activate it. i scanned with norton AND avg and got 0 threats these vista defender bubbles are popping up litteraly every 2 minutes. is this just windows trying to scam people out of money? |

| a) This is a scam, malware. AVG should be able to pick it up, but, its really not as good as it used to be. Norton is terrible, a waste of time. This 'vista defender' is nothing to do with windows what so ever. b) What the fuck have you been looking at? either downloading from the really dodgy parts of the net, watching videos of people having sex with things they shouldn't have sex with, or you have no idea what not to click on, which, I find hard to believe because having known you here a while you don't see stupid c) things like this can be from really hard to really difficult to get rid of. Hope that its easy. I'm running this on xp way of doing things, so, if this doesn't work, then, I dunno, don't know how to use vista as I've never used it properly thank fuck. As blosom says, XP sp2 'if it aint broke don't fix it'. Too fucking right, best OS out <3 To fix it? I want you to press ctrl + alt + del. There should be an option to go to 'task manager' if it doesn't automatically come up in vista. Once there, you want to find the processes tab. Look there for something that resembles 'vista defender'. It'll just be a list of things running, a lot of them with weird names, but one should resemble vista defender in some way. Click on it once, and there should be an 'end process button'. First part of your problem sorted, as its not running any more. Then hold the windows key down, and press R. This brings up the run box. Type in 'msconfig'. If its anything like XP, there is a tab thats called 'startup' at the top. Click it, see if you can find anything with a similar name to what you closed before in task manager and un tick that. Also, there should be a services tab, if you see anything in there with a similar name, do the same. What blosom said also, look in program files for anything suspicious and delete that. Now, as you said AVG + norton can't find it, we can assume they're being retarded. Google a program called 'avast!' anti virus program, its got spyware scanning built in, and is totally free. Brilliant program, I'd recommend it over AVG anyway. YOu know the free servers of AVG parse your IP through ad sites? Or, they used to at least. Assholes. If you get Avast running, scan with that. If that doesn't help, then, I cant do any more without being there. One last tip for the future.. Google a program called 'free internet eraser'. Its a little bit of freeware, should be available on download.com, basically it just clears your internet cache and ALL tracks of privacy to levels wayy more than just clearing your cookies.. Its really helpful for getting programs like that off your back. Its designed for creepy people to get away with looking at creepy things, but, it does have the very brilliant use of giving your computer a sort of clean slate, as dodgy programs pick up on bits of this hidden registry values of things you've seen on the net, and thats what attracts some of them to you. The program is only a couple of mb, if that, and can clean your computer (don't worry, it doesn't delete any of your files) in a few minutes, if that. I really hope that helps. |

| Yup norton fails  Xp is what i have, i think its sp2 idk though. I use avast, its a free antivirus thats really good. You need spybot or somthing like that to get rid of spywear. |

| hmmm the program dosnt show up in processes, but it shows up in services
when i try to stop the service it says ' the operation could not be completed' 'access is denied'
edit: i clicked the little icon in the bottom corner of the screen to open the 'windows defender' program, went to applications, then clicked 'go to process', this took me to the actual process of the program, its called 'ave' which explains why i couldnt find it first. i ended it and the program closed but it was still in sefvices, i tried to stop it again. this time it closed all my windows (firefox, itunes, msn) i tried to open them again and it came up with something saying that the programs were unsafe and i had to register windows defender and delete the viruses, basically i closed the virus program then tried to stop it completely and it closed my programs and re-opened the virus program and didnt let me open them again. after about 5 times of clicking 'no i dont want to register' and trying to reopen my programs they opened, i closed the process again and havnt tried to stop it yet.
any further help? |

| the only thing i could suggest that you would probably be able to do is to go into control panel, and then system i think? and reverse the changes....it will set your computer back to how it was a few days ago, or a month ago....depending on how far you set it......im not hopefull that will sort it though....thats the best i can give you, as im not on your cpu......there is a bit of software you can get that will let me connect to your cpu, and i can look around your cpu from mine.......you dont want me looking at your dog porn though its hard trying to give advice on cpu's and trying to sort it when im not on it myself... hope this helps.. |

| if programs that combat spyware and viruses cant help (I know you've run a virus scan but, if you go to google, then to 'pack' from the 'even more' bit at the top, theres a spyware software program there, I forget its name but its good. If that cant help, then, yea, try a rollback like has been said.
If that doesn't work, you're probably gonna have to reformat your pc : o |
