iOh Hi! Kind of been waiting for this moment to be honest. I've never really been a fan of closeup so this is perfect, actually.

Okay you see, they are saying the gen5 is not a china deck. Well I'm here to prove, that actually.. Yes. It is. I mean really? Do I have any business getting my nose in this? No. But I kind of think it's bullshit.

Here we are, this is a nice little collaboration of a Maple China deck that I have. Just to provide "pics" to back up meh talk. Take a nice looky.

First off, you can see that if you look between the decks they look fairly similar.

Now obviously our camera's resolution and quality are quite a bit different, also in shooting style. My picture is straight on, Xi's is a bit "fisheyed".

Also Notice: That the wheelbase is exactly the same. The holes are hella far away from the tail and more towards the middle than the normal deck.

Now to this. All china decks basically have this weird chipped rigged mark on the sides. Idk, just how they are cut out or something I guess. Notice. My china deck and the gen5 have it as-well... Hmm......

And as to the shape? Do I even need to post a picture? Seriously?

I mean seriously guys.. I could go on and on, but why waste my time... I spent like 30 minutes on this... If you don't think it's a china deck by now.. well then.. study 🇵🇬

EDIT: Oh and I measured it and the deck is 29.39mm. So it's a 29mm as-well.. Hmmm

Oh, and sorry to double post, but yeah, these are China decks. Check out 4Cfb's website and compare the shapes. The lower shape is actually really nice, but the high kicks/concave decks, SMH.... The wheel base does not fit the holes and makes for a waste of kick height. IMO it would have been better just to go with the mellower imported deck. I liked the one I tried. (:

You don't need to go futher... Your opinion can't be change, even if we put 2 deck in front of you noze...

Comparing deck only with picture is totally stupid. You said shape are the same, on the picture you show, I found the CU deck with more concave.

You spend 1/2h to try to find "prove", only thing you show, is that your hate toward closeup make you say bull$hits...

I repeat, I touche the decks, even as china.
When you twist china deck, they are very flexible, Closeup barely twist. Craftma, ship is totally different.

And BTW, closeup, as Damien ALWAYS said, are made in China, with HIS own mold. Maybe it's China deck who copy closeup shape, and do some 29mm before.

Looks awesome, and I really doubt that close up would use China decks, its just the fact that any wide deck with deep concave and high kicks will always look similar to a China deck.

There is no refuting the evidence forgiven has provided. however, it is agreed that grendel does have a point that if they perform differently (and isn't Xi in china right now?) then that makes a difference. Therefore, the only way to settle this is a gentleman's duel to the death to eliminate emotional bias.

You have not been a fan of Close Up so you would like to casually defame the brand? Sounds like a major dick move, mate. I wouldn't have minded neutral criticism but that's not really what your stance is suggested by your language.

To say that the wheelbase is exactly the same, you would need measurements or perhaps a picture of the measurements.

The wheelbase on the G5s is the same as it has been on the Close Up G3 and G4 decks. If you have access to these decks, perhaps you know someone who has one, then you can closely analyse it and support your argument.

The main point I would like to make follows from my last statement. The G5 high concave deck is based on the G3/G4 decks in that the dimensions of the different generations have been consistent, apart from the width; the G3 is 26mm, the G4 is 27mm and the G5 is 29mm. Not only the wheelbase is the same in these generations, the length, kick lengths, kick heights, kick shapes (they're both pointy but obviously the widths affects it slightly), height of rail to rail concave and number of plies.

I've also had to contend with the accusation that the decks are remolded Evolve decks in the corresponding FFI thread. In fact, I would say the G5 high concave is even closer to the Solider Bar 2012 mold decks, although the lengths and the pop (different wood and glue?) are noticeably different. People who don't ride high concave decks may often presume different decks are similar or identical when they aren't. I have also dealt with the false idea that the Tech Deck Concave series and the Close Up G3 were the same shape.

I have been aware for some time that there have been unauthorised copies of Close Up products in the past. Tech Deck suffers counterfeiting on a large scale but Close Up also has to deal with this. I've seen trucks sold on a Chinese site that are from the same mold as the G1/2/3 Close Up trucks but painted in different colours and without the Close Up logo. As I said before with the consistent dimensions of the G3, G4 and G5 apart from width, it wouldn't surprise me if the G3/G4 was copied in some way for the Chinese hardcore decks and if it was the other way around, wouldn't there be clear evidence of it by now? Close Up have always had their own molds and it's the same case here.

Now to this. All china decks basically have this weird chipped rigged mark on the sides. Idk, just how they are cut out or something I guess. Notice. My china deck and the gen5 have it as-well... Hmm......

To say that "All china decks basically have this weird chipped rigged mark on the sides", it would be helpful if you produced a picture with enough China decks pictured to support such a statement. It may be true but the picture you used only shows 1 deck.

The G5 deck that I showed shows a section of this rough marking on 2 plies on 1 rail of the deck. It's not evident on any other part of the deck or evident on the G5 low concave deck that I have. It appears that the deck you showed has this marking on all 5 plies. In addition, I currently have no other G5 decks to compare this with. You may have a point but there is insufficient evidence here.

In any case, it appears to be a mark that is from some unfinished sanding/filing where it was not finished with finer sanding. I did mention before that these decks are early versions of the G5 decks. I would assume there would be better quality when creating the main bulk of the decks. Another graphics series will be produced soon so I'll see how those come out.

This feedback is useful though and I'll pass it on to Damien.

EDIT: Oh and I measured it and the deck is 29.39mm. So it's a 29mm as-well.. Hmmm

I asked for the picture since there are lots of different types of "China decks". Even from ones I found, it was not clear enough to see that they were identical. I assumed you had found some clear pictures somewhere or you had at least a deck yourself. I just wanted to see better pictures to see myself.

As I said in the last part, lots of decks may appear to be similar but are quite different, especially if they are a type of deck (high concave) that you don't usually use. I'll admit the shape is similar but I've seen similar before that are actually different (my Soldier Bar 2012 deck).

29mm is a common width of deck. Obviously, you have other points that this to support your argument but 29mm is a width that the majority of deck companies use (Berlinwood, Yellowood, Flatface, etc). One piece of feedback I gave for the G4 completes were that I wished for the decks and truck widths to match. As the G4 trucks are 29mm, this is a good reason to make the decks 29mm. Also, the majority of fingerboarders are able to use 29mm decks comfortably and it's a great starting width too if someone is unsure.

Damien is a very busy person and is a respectable person in fingerboarding and skateboarding. He does actually take trips to China to the manufacturer but I will repeat again that Close Up have their own molds.

Sides of the G4 and G5s again. Obviously they're setup so they're not all viewed from the same angle but you can see that the lengths, lengths of kicks, kick heights and shape of concave are the same.

Here, you can see the wheelbase and the position of the kicks being the same between the G4 and G5.
