Hey ive recently decided that i want to make my own decks but dont want to use a companys already made mold, i also didnt want to buy one so i built my own..
I used my skills with being able to work with wood with ease to cut and shape a mold..
I have a large batch of different veneers on order at 0.6mm ready to be cut and placed into the mold

Here is two photo's of the stage it is at, the next thing im doing is to sand down some more of the edging and perfectly curve the inside that will create a nice and smooth concave and kick

Looks PRetty Good! I think you should put a thin sheet of metal on like where the decks are supposed to be pressed. I think it would make it smoother!

thats where my materials end, i havnt got the suply to readily make metal to fit into the shape sadly.. i shall have to see how my tests go first if not i may try what you said with some way of getting a metal sheet in, 2-3mm ally may work

looks alright......if its only to please your own deck making adventures.

its not going to produce symmetrical concave and the shape will be wonky.

also the wood is soft. its going to give under heavy pressure.

your never going to make another exact half for the mold by sanding it with wood neither.

i would sand 1 half of the mold, get it good, then pour resin over the 1st half to get an exact 2nd half of the mold......then pour resin in that 2nd half to get the 3rd half, (which would really be the 2nd half). you then have 2 half made of resin. both fit together perfectly.

its good to see someone experimenting though. deck making is all about over coming problems.

i dont have the funds to go and buy resin to make things like that tho

honestly, instead of spending the money on veneer, glue, and lacquer. I'd get some Bond-o or resin and make a nice mold, then save up for the rest of your materials...

ive already got my materials, what i usualy build usualy works.. ill be treating the wood with a hardener that i have previously used and will be using gauges to get my correct allignment with both curvatures and depth of that i can then work out the required 2nd mold shape using the data from the first i shall post the pictures of the decks when they are made

Just buy urethane resin. Its only $40 and makes you around 4 molds

Thats the thing i dont have that sort of money lying around, ive made the mold from a old wooden post i had lying around.. Just a case of making the most of what you have got

It all went pretty good until the part where i opened the can. I had to sleep at my granparents house becouse my room was filled with poisonus gas...

ive been making different wood molds for along time i had the top and bottom the same fit.



what i did was i put a picture of the shape I wanted on a block of wood then i cut it out. ( I forgot the name of the tool i used) my only problem was the was no concave :/

but yea its a cool idea to try but listen to what Blosom said.

Ive already spoken to blosom via pm, i have my deck in its last stages, 2nd clear coat out of 5, should have a picture up of it.. from this mold so to the people who said it wont work, useless.. well then, your incorrect
