So, this applies more to people who've been fbing for a while than the new people, but, everyone is welcome to discuss.
Just now I looked back at all my old videos. Found one I love. Its filmed on my old phone, pretty shit quality footage to say the least, but, honestly? It reminds me of a time when I had wayyy more fun fingerboarding than I do now. I'll explain why in a sec, first, watch this video:
40 seconds of phone footage. NC CP mold deck, fbs, td wides, td wheels. I remember I had my bwnm + brrs + g7.1brobs, but I snapped the axle on one of my brrs so I couldnt use that until the new bit for my brrs came, which took WEEKS (I'm sure some of you remember). I look at that as one of my best videos. I had to try to create something decent with what little I had, and ended up with a really fun video that shows to me, what fingerboarding is. Its also weird looking back and remembering when I didn't have a bed and slept on the floor for 5 months, haha..
I mean, I've come a way since then skill wise, got wayy more consistent and soo many new tricks down, learnt to get flip tails + noseslides in reg and switch, and a bunch of other stuff. But, my park has made my videos worse. I miss having just a piece of flat ground with two cardboard ramps on it. Honestly it was sooo much more fun than my park. I still use my old fb table sometimes. When I move I'm gonna make just a flat area, maybe something a bit more than that, two levels perhaps and a stairset inbetween them, but, that'll be it. I want something that inspires me to try and film, and have fun in creative ways, not a park thats just set, and pretty boring after a while. If you watch my latest big video, 'park sessions', I think its good, but, its uninspired. Bland. Some interesting edits, but ultimately just good trick after good trick on something. Heres another old video, not many good tricks skill wise, but it was creative. Again, using a NC CP mold deck, really old falling apart rip, td wides, td wheels.
I want to make creative, interesting things again. Not have a giant park thats got everything all laid out for me. Because, thats what I enjoy watching. I mean, who saw 'organicthemachine' or w/e his name is latest video? Camera quality = average-poor. Obstacles = homemade. Lighting = bad. BUT, he made such an interesting, fantastic watch. I'd rather watch that over uber 3409233987293874p HD super mega quality footage on a brr park. People doing things in their own way = more interesting than people doing things in a way thats set out by what they're riding. Don't get me wrong, I love all the hd footage on brr parks, brr stuff is amazing, just, I think I've remembered what I love about fingerboarding. When I move, which is in like 2-3 months, my park is up for grabs, for free, if anyone wants it. Seriously.
So, after the shittest day today I remembered something important, and I've cheered up because of it. When I get my g12 I'ma film something like the old stuff I used to do, make myself proud. Hopefully you'll enjoy it.
So, my discussion topic, after that long read, is this. Do you think your style of video has changed from when you first started filming? if so, do you miss the old style? AND, what do you think is better.. park footage, but pretty much the same amazingly good tricks every pro in america + germany can do, and some of the ams too.. OR, something creative, with maybe a switch flip being the most technical trick, but, it being creative nonetheless.

yeah, so true, i love making random obstacles, that arnt just coppied from brr, or just having a sesh on a random object thats practically unseshable but still trying and having fun about it or just put some ramps next to eachother and try stupid stuff. partially the reason i dont make many videos is not only the problems with my computer but sometimes i can spend ages trying to land a trick, and i dont find it fun, it just stresses me out, the space i have to fingerboard on is litterally 25 inch x 15 inch which is hardly a runup and hardly a roll away from an obstacle, but i can just sit and have a fun sesh not caring what tricks i land. when you come yo syndrome or ukr3 you will have so much fun, not many people fingerboard superseriously at events, we all just chill and sesh doing whatever tricks we feel like im sure from what you saw on jonnys syndrome vid you can tell everyone wasnt serious and we were just messing around in a way. and id take that park off your hands but wouldnt be able to come and get it from plymouth =/ maybe if you could somehow get it to ukr or syndrome 3 id take it at the end of the event but yeah, completely down to you.

I know that feeling farr to well. its silly really. Much rather have fun. When I have a fun sesh I remember how much true fingerboarding relaxes me.
I really cant wait to go to an event too, as you say, sounds lots of really fun fingerboarding, rather than uber uber serious. I've no way of transporting the park really, sorry. its 2 metres long, can't really carry it around : o
On an organic vs professional note, heres another thought. Being that I'm moving in a few months (me and anna are getting a place together ^_^) I was all 'OMG I can make a new park! I'll make it REALLY good!' so, I drew some plans. Heres what I came up with. I think its a really good park, but, I don't really want something like that. I spent the last hour or so on sketchup and made this: The two ramps on the flat area are just examples of what I could put there, that'll just be flat. Cardboard + wood park. Simple, fun, a lot of space to make it my own, rather than stuck to what is there. I reckon it'll cost around 30 quid to make, which is cheaper than my current park ^_^ It'll be just under 2 metres long. I think it sums up what I wanted in a park to begin with, a base for which I can make my own tricks, not a set park. I may have designed something worthy of being brr g8 plaza, but, thats not really what I've ever wanted. Would be fun to sesh, but, not something I'd want to have long term, unless I could have both : o

go back to your earlier days then tim! Don't care about getting uber techy switch tricks, just get some nice reg ones down and you'll probably have more fun

I know what you mean, it seems to apply to every hobby aswell.
In guitar im sure i used to have more fun through my 15 watt line 6, and my 1st guitar. Than ive ever had now with my 3 guitars, 100w peavey half stack and a boss processer.
And watching old skate footage brings back memories too. There used to be at least 8 skaters where im from when i first started skating, now theres 3, including me, and one has a broken ankle and cant skate for months...

yea, I think you're right. but, you can go back to having fun in the old ways, with decent boards and better tricks, you've just gotta be creative. Or, thats how it is for me. Creative, and film something cos its fun, not because its the most amazing trick in the world.
Sucks about the guys ankle.. cant suck as much as the fact that they knocked down plymouth skatepark though

I totally agree. I remember over the summer I was staying at my uncles beach house because our floors were getting redone, and I had a totally stock tech deck and I would make a little ledge out of a box or something with the warm summer air. I sucked at fbing and I could really only ollie and kickflip sometimes but I still had a lot of fun. Now a days I have progressed a lot but when I cant get a trick I feel like im a failure and I should just quit. Its all because of the internet. When I used to fb I wasnt even on a forum or youtube. I want to revert back to those old days. No forum, just me having fun and doing what I love.

everything that has been said is just so true. nowadays im too wrapped up in learning difficult tricks that just make me angry and frustrated more than anything.....when i just have fun on my fbrd i feel as though im not learning anything....if that makes sense....i guess alot of it might be cos i have nobody to fbrd with, so it just becomes learning new stuff all the time
