i have this handy little tool here. cost me 3 dollars at a cheapo tool store
http://www.watercoolinguk.co.uk/images/product_images/large/32086_0.jpganyhow - since ive got mine - i like to measure everything i got. when i find a setup i like i try to take account its specifications that i seem to enjoy in a deck or wheel or whatever combo of both.
things i like to measure include : wheel base. i measure from dead center the mounting screw holes closest to eachother. findings are as follows. zink 42.5mm flatfaceg12 44.5mm Nocomply m2W 43mm pure 42mm temple 41mm
so this shows me im using a range of short and long wheelbase fingerboard decks . and they all react diffrently due to kick angle and kick leingth.. but the overall feel of a short wheelbase and a long wheelbase deck to me does have some solididity. throwing 360 flips on each setup feels diffrnet on how you get the short wheelbase boards want to wing around real fast - and the longer wheelbase boards tend to require more user effort to rotate a full 360 spin.. sometimes even resulting in tending to land a bit sideways as to not fully rotate the 360 spin and end up at like 310 deg. of motion and having to powerslide the rest of the way around.
maby im crazy a bit for getting so tecnical with it. but i do enjoy it also.
another thing i tend to watch my self looking at my decks.. measuring the side rails of the deck - to see if there is a "fat" spot on them. generaly i like my deck to be fully the same width between the trucks. but on most decks - they tend to be a little bit thinner twards the back trucks than the fronts. idk why. but thats how it is sometimes i guess.
i also check total leingth on all my decks. here are some findings = zink 101mm flatface g12 100.25mm Nocomply m2W 100mm pure 99.5mm temple 102mm
so again - even tho total leingth is affected by how long the nose is / vs the tail is / vs the wheelbase and where the kicks start to kick up... i still again find myself taking my setups that i like and measuring them.. calculating what it would be in a perfect deck for me to have / make / own / use. its such a strange thing realley if i think about it in the aspect of using math to create in my head my most ideal sweet numaricly correct deck for my own personal use.. because i failed algebra twice in highschool - but now on my own free time i like to calculate endless variables in my head. lol
here is the big kicker for me tho = when i see people selling fingerboard decks - and posting no specifications on it. at all. not even a width. how am i suposed to know if its even in the general realm of what i like in a fingerboard by just saying hey im selling this deck and it has a picture on the bottom hope you like it. and want it. and buy it from me.
that part i dont get. but maby its because i like to overemphasize psyical specifications in regards to a measurment vs how i will enjoy using a certan deck...
what do yall think ? feel free to reply anything on how ya feel about measuring decks
