So bummed! 20130710

Look at what happened while I was setting up my new homewood deck and homewood wheels with Starfingerboarding trucks. Needless to say I am not happy.

*China deck
*China wheels
*China trucks

It's not Homewood's fault since the shop stuff is just China shit, but I guess you get what you pay for with China shit, or at least you get what China companies such as star pay for, you pay 400% more.

I second this. Tried allen trucks. Worked only for 1 month. Standard china trucks that I bought a year ago? Flawless.

The Shop stuff is something I can't get onboard with feels like a Michelin star restraunt selling McDonalds for those who want something cheaper. Really bugs me. But, that might just be me.

I like allen key trucks! I have almost had this happen! sometimes the bearing fits too tight over the threads and will get stuck or the worst break! like this one did!
The new china and TD trucks the kingpin is leaned way back and super short so it makes using bushings retarded so I like allen key better. TD trucks from like 2005 had some long ass kingpins that stick straight up and were in the way of grinds but you could put bigger bushings on them and they worked better lol

The deck and wheels are great, I have the 2 set ups. Both Homewood Shop Deck and Wheels on TD Trucks (one Long Board Trucks and the other Modified TD Wide Trucks) I guess it was just a freak occurrence with these.

It's a gamble, buying china products. They are very inconsistent (because they are mass-produced by machines, not people) and they quality can change every time you get them.

But yeah, they are okay I guess. I got some Gator T5 trucks a while back, and they were actually nice, the bearing screws were solid. I got lucky.

I'm using no comply phillips head bearing screws on my td trucks and haven't had any problems. Maybe they just gave you regular hex axles?

Yea I got the Hex ones. 3 of them fit snugly but good the other one was short and bent. That's the one that messed up my wheel.

PostSubject: Re: So bummed!   So bummed! EmptyFri Jul 12, 2013 12:22 pm

I sent one replacement wheel and a spare in case the replacement breaks down lol.

I agree it's always a gamble when you buy mass-produced products, which is why I plan to no longer carry these wheels and decks once I sell out of them.  I have been thanked by many people for carrying them because it has been much more affordable, but I can't get over some of the flaws I've seen especially with the red wheels. It's like they had a blind person in Quality Control looking at all of them before passing them through! So I'm going to sell some of them for $3/set at IFC and give some away, because they don't even come close to my standards. They still work though I'm sure.

I was happy to be able to provide for those who don't have a lot of money to spend but it's always been a personal conflict for me to carry these wheels/decks. On the one hand the white wheels look amazing, really great quality. The other colors are way less consistent.  And the decks are not bad but again not to the level of quality I am used to (hence why they're cheaper so I guess whatever floats your boat).

And I know a lot of people have misinterpreted my own posts on the topic of carrying China products. I am mainly against companies that only carry China products and will lie or not even mention where they are made, leading everyone to believe that they make everything themselves. If you stop and think there are many products that most of us don't have the capacity to make ourselves (foam tape, trucks, wheels, carrying bags, etc.) so we have no choice but to get them from manufacturers. From what I know no one can make their own trucks or foam tape. The process is just too expensive. It's more economical to have them made by professionals who have the machinery to produce them. This in turn makes them affordable to the average fingerboarder.

Jerome Verony from Substance is the only person I know who has ever machined his own wheels on a regular basis, but even he had to stop because it was taking up way too much of his time. I know Brandon Jones also made some back in the day but never sold them to the general public. Todd Cuzzort from NC makes his own urethane lab wheels. Other than that I don't know of anyone else that physically makes their own wheels by hand, but I also don't know everyone personally who sells wheels but I'd be willing to bet they don't make them by hand.

Going back to decks, I am continuing to push to carry a cheaper deck that I make myself but with all the work I put in to each deck, I really can't afford to sell them for less than $25-$30 a piece. I could completely skip the edge-rounding process like so many other companies do which would allow me to sell the decks for cheaper, but I can't get used to not rounding the edges on my decks lol. But we'll see I guess!
