i just bought a nikon d5200 yesterday and the reason i didnt get the canon t3i was only because i wanted the 24mp and it shoots 1080i , both are great cameras if you have never used a DSLR they are great , lens changing ect . the canon t3i is a great beginner camera . another reason i got a nikon is because my dad has about 6 plus lens already for nikons so it saves me money in the long run. just watch youtube reviews ect , but save the money and get a DSLR

That the only reason, Canon T2/3i are better in videos than nikons (you can shoot in 60 fps/720P wink, so better slo mo)

As everybody said before, get a Canon body, and choose your lenses (the 17-55 in set suck)
you can get the "must have" 50mm f1/8, and a little fisheye.
That the high end choose.

The gopro 3 (black edition ONLY) is also a good choice.

But the main questions is what do you want to do with it ? Only shoot fingerboard videos ? do some other videos ? Take pictures ?
If you only want to film don't spend money on a DSLR with lenses, you'll get a better "film only" camera, with a good hard drive inside.

And also, what is your budget ? wink

I use the Blackmagic Pocket which is just under 1000 and is the best camera in its price range just it only goes up 30fps, but I can twixtor it. I love the camera beautiful images, but I do professional video work and short films. If you have budget get this camera

This is why 10 bit 1080p prores 442 HQ is better than 8 bit 720p h246 at 30fps

I notice you mentioned 1080i in a positive manner earlier in the thread. NEVER you 1080i unless you know how to properly deinterlace... which is pointless and will add length to render times and generally crap up half the time. It is good that you have lenses available, and for that reason (and that reason only) I think it was a good idea that you went nikon. Generally speaking, nikon's codecs SUCK, and there is a notorious green-cast on their videos. Not to mention their ISO performance decreases in video mode. Anyways, it's still massively better than cameras from even 5-6 years ago.

Well like I said, the lens choices totally make up for that (at least from a cost point of view).

I don't know about now, but pre 2010 essentially all nikons' white balance slightly favored green (even when professionally calibrated). It is essentially unnoticeable, but still there. Yours should NOT have this issue, though.
