Mini DV Tapes? Empty
PostSubject: Mini DV Tapes?   Mini DV Tapes? EmptyMon Dec 01, 2014 8:49 pm

Hi guys, this is sort of a long shot but I was wondering if anyone has ever transferred footage from their Mini DV tapes (from an old camcorder) to the computer.

I am creating a wedding DVD  and I've seen many options online for what software to use/how to do it.

If you've done it before, what software did you use?
Since this is the only footage the couple has of their wedding I'd hate to lose/ruin it by using something that doesn't work.

Any tips would be a massive help happy

The entire time I used DV tapes I used a firewire cable into my laptop and I captured it in Sony Vegas. I have no idea how the quality of it holds up compared to other software but it gets the job done. Granted this was around 5 years ago so there's hopefully better ways of doing it by now.

Yeah as kevin mentioned you are going to need a firewire, and a computer that has a firewire port (any mac will have it, but pc's are a little harder to find). And yeah vegas works well, that's what my brother and I use most of the time. If you can get your hands on a mac with final cut that would also work. I think you can also capture from imovie incase you can't get final cut (it's pretty expensive). So yeah you basically just need a firewire and a computer with a firewire port.

both imovie and windows movie maker both have options to capture footage but if for some reason you don't have either of these could try windv or something like that
