customs charges from usa to uk Empty
PostSubject: customs charges from usa to uk   customs charges from usa to uk EmptySat May 22, 2010 12:12 pm

im expecting 2 things from usa at the moment, a bwom from jerry and a bw09 from ff.

today i get a slip through my door asking i need to pay £13.45 customs charges for a 'fingerboard toy'.

i know if gift isn't wrote these things can happen, but i know jerry knows to write gift, and ff do too, or pay their charges (business)

has anyone else been hit with customs charges? happy

I live in the USA and got a package yesterday from JackLilley and didnt have to pay.
When I shipped of course I had to pay like an extra dollar per thing I shipped so I spent $1.22 just to ship some bolts and $2.64 for a deck.

ive just looked into it, and it turns out items sent as gifts from outside the eu over the amount of £40 have customs charges of some sort.......now ordering stuff from brr doesnt look too bad happy .......i guess ive been lucky in the past, cos i order lots and lots of stuff, and i guess they have just cottoned on to me, and i have to pay my charges.........

so folks from uk, if your ordering stuff from usa over the amount of £40 dont be suprised if you get hit with customs charges/import vat... sad ......

if anyone is interested here is the info....its all very confusing but thats why they do it...happy

businesses don't have to pay customs charges, and unless they're a VERY big company (i.e. bigger than all skateboarding + fbing companies put together), they wont. Customs charges are viewed almost unanimously as the responsibility of the buyer, because, they vary for places all over the world. You pay a shipping fee, and are warned on the site that customs charges may occur.

Flatface don't mark as gifts, because, thats illegal. hes a business. Also, the cut off is 18 quid, because its not a gift.

They don't check names, they just check a few random packages out of the thousands that come though. Generally not small things as they want to charge people money, and bigger things are worth more. So, yea, you've been lucky, as have I all the times I've brought something from ff, including when I got my g7.1s, which came to 35 quid.

I don't know how they work out how much customs fees you'll have to pay, but, I know that theres always a chance you can get it, when ordering from companies, if its over 18 quid. Fingerboarding stuff is generally ignored as its small, but, theres always a chance.

all my ff stuff that has to be declared on the packet has been marked as gifts....and im guessing the customs people have cottoned on to all my packages coming through, and have seen my name too many times and thought, 'cheeky bugger, ordering all this stuff' and have charged me... sad

really? They normally don't do that and I've never seen them do that for anyone else..

And, honestly, when you see THOUSANDS if not hundreds of thousands of packages a day, you really think one name showing up once every few weeks is gonna stick in their head? No. Not at all. They just happened to randomly check you, it can happen to anyone happy
