I started out with just drawings (they're hand drawn, not stencils) using a Pentel white marker. Some fine lines are drawn with a correctional fluid pen. In fact, I also used the pens for drawing guidelines first. Except for my latest one because I couldn't find any of them in my house so I just used the thick marker for guidelines. Then you can just fill and colour it with the thick marker. Also, fucking up slightly is fine. I used black pen to cover up bits I fucked up. They aren't big fuck ups, just more of a case of the white marker suddenly flowing too much and overlapping with lines I want to preserve. Ever since the bottom picture deck, I have just found plain grip too boring. Every deck I've had since then has some kind of art on the top. There's also one I didn't post which was just the star from Tony Hawk's Underground. The only deck I've had since then that didn't have anything on the top was when I was in China. I didn't have stuff to do it with. I have seen cut out grip designs for a while and saw some awesome ones done on longboards. The NES one was done by doing some research into the NES controller finding out the exact measurements of the different parts of it. I then scaled it to the width of my deck (but a bit smaller). I cut the main rectangle from a sheet of grip then I used scissors and a knife to cut out all the parts. It took a while to do because of all the detailed parts of it but the main difficulty was applying it to my board in the correct places. Using the remaining grip, I lined it up on the top, cut it, then gripped the bottom. For the Cyndaquil, I was actually just going to do another drawing. My spare deck had been in my room for about 2 years as I had bought 2 decks in a promotion and also went to China for a year. I realised later that the top ply of the deck is red, which would be perfect for Cyndaquil's flame. So I just combined what I did for my last 2 decks and it's a nice combination. I fucking love it and I think it's on par with the standards of my last 2 decks which I didn't think I would be able to match. Saying all this, I really dislike trying to do art. I'm a perfectionist with it so I'll take ages. I needed to change deck for weeks but I kept holding off on doing the art on the new grip because I knew it would take a lot of planning and effort. I always feel scared as fuck that I'm going to screw it up completely. Now the job is done, I won't need to do another for a few months. My decks last me 6 months on average since I don't do stairs and shit now. @James That is a really great idea. Actually I tried to do something like that with a white marker but it just coats it and makes it ungrippy but spraying seems like the obvious method I need to try! |

| Xi it lasts about a week, i might try and use a different type of spray and see how long it holds up for. Mabey some sort of fabric spray or something. And forgot to say your grips look rad, especially like the 2nd one and the last one |

| Maybe try acrylic paint? Nail polish even? Even a metallic Sharpie pen would probably work. |
