So my girlfriend and I went to visit her dad today, and he had this thing sitting outside that looked super junky, but when I looked closer, I found a gold mine! The top is worthless, but the bottom is the perfect shape to build a cement bowl out of! Here are some pics. Top Bottom Doesnt it look perfect? Im not exactly sure what to use to cover the hole in the center of it, or which type of cement works best. Any suggestions? I kinda wanted to make it into something a little bit different but I think it will be a lot of fun in the end. Heres what I was thinking... Obviously that line is a rail. I wanted to do pool coping on one side, and just a normal chill side on the other. What do you guys think?

Well i know that Portland cement is what you use for the last layer of cement because it is the smoothest. Im thinking maybe put a couple layers of not as good cement first. You could also fill the hole with crappy cement, just a suggestion.

maybe you could put a 1 inch high peice of flexible plastic round the outside and then fill it up so it is deeper or if you want mellow then i think it will work good but might be a little cramped, can you post a pic of the fingerboard in it ? for proportion etc

shouldn't be hard at all. In my experience mortar mix works just fine, just smooth it every few hours with a sponge and some water. As for changing the shape maybe clay? Possibly? Idk Im sure someone else will have a better suggestion there.

just use moartar mix, go to home depot and buy foam and plastic mesh. cut the foam to the size, spray adhesive them together, cut to fit into the circular thing (round and flush with the top) and then cut out the shape of the bowl with a bandsaw blade. put the mesh over the concrete and anchor it in a few places with stapes, cover with MOARTAR mix, not regular concrete, it has rocks. thats how i make my bowls accept shaping the foam to fit into the circle thing, but you get what i meant there
