| so a couple of years ago, if someone came up with he idea of a 32mm deck they would have been looked at as crazy.
So my question is, because 32mm is now the width that most people ride, will decks get any wider, and if so how wide do you think they will become before it becomes unrealistic?
in my opinion if a deck is 34mm or more wide and is 100mm ish in length then it starts to look a bit unrealistic and if they were to make wider decks they would have to make them longer, with longer wheelbases, resulting in worse performance IMO so I really cant see everyone in a few years time using decks wider than 34mm seriously. Thats just my opinion though and thats probably what they said a couple of years ago, so i would like to hear your opinion on it |

| Wouldn't surprise me if 33,3 or whatever it is would be the most normal width in like one or two years but I would never use anything wider than that for a normal deck. My opinion on that would probably change if 33,3 became the most normal width but that's how I feel now at least. If the width keeps on growing to like 35mm's and more but the length stays around 100mm's the size of a fingerboard would be pretty different to a regular skateboard deck. Although as you use a fingerboard with your fingers and not your feet the shape should probably be a little bit different at least.

| I guess some people with special preferences will use wider decks than 34mm, but i can imagine the majority will stick to 32/33,3mm. for me (i don't have small hands), 33,3mm feels already a little too wide. I might be wrong, we'll see |

I might be wrong, we'll see Remember though that the majority used to use 27-29mm. |

| i dont think its gonna get past 35mm. A handboard is 60mm, and I doubt anyone will be riding decks as wide to their knuckles. I think 33.3 is gonna become the new 29mm, as it was back then, But time will tell |

| Only time will tell.... If Xi can ride a 50 mm deck then I don't see why boards can't get wider although anything wider and we'll soon have one handed handboards. |

| in my opinion, wider boards change things up, and add differences. over the years, people have been making popsicles shapes very often. nowadays, there are really not that many boards that have a real "uniqueness", meaning something that makes them stand out and make people say "woah, that actually looks pretty good." everything is just repetitive and overused. when zac started making his shorter boards, everybody was hyped at how much of a difference it made, shape-wise and also performance-wise. so, if you keep an open mind, everybody can agree that a change in how we view the width and length of any given deck makes everything, in a way, healthier. it doesn't matter if it looks stubby; it adds color into this world and makes us prosper. |

| i think there is a limit on how wide decks can get.
once they start getting too wide then it won't look like a mini skateboard anymore.
i use decks that are 26mm btw and i have a hard time using wider boards.
also if the deck starts getting way too wide it then becomes a handboard! |

| Can't remember if it was on here or somewhere else that I saw a super wide fingerboard, that had really wide hangers too, thought it looked a bit silly tbh.
I've only started really, but I've got a couple setups, but the 32mm deck I have is my favourite even though the pop is dead on the tail side, I prefer the width compared to the 30mm decks I have. |

| Popsicles are overrated-------square kicks are where its at, and to answer the question I think yeah, its more about people wanting something different than the average, I know people ride like 35mm popsicles sometimes, but I don't think the average will get past 34, I think that people will start to make more creative and practical shapes and/or more art involved. Look at some companies that are really popular and unique right now, Woobs have short wheelbases, Beastpants have unbelievable split ply art, Brutals have tranny-oriented shapes, Cowplys have unique graphics, there are, of course great decks that are standard, but I think innovation will soon beat the standard medium-low kicks, low concave, 100x32. |

| Great post Parrish, some really insightful points there man... I think if you look at what's getting traction, it is all about innovation. Recently, this hasn't been a crucible for driving deck widths ever bigger, but is instead focusing on other areas, whether that be wheelbase, split plies of whatever.
The reality is that deck shape preference is, by its very nature, highly subjective but with the choices available right now, we're living in a golden age! |

| i'm guessing it depends on the big opinion leaders such as BRR to really secure a new standard in the scene. I doubt they will go beyond the 33,3mm mark, as this will eventually require a new set of trucks which will not be profitable enough to make it reality. Of course various smaller companies will make 34+ decks, but i doubt without a big company catching on that it will be a popular width people use. I think 32mm/33mm is a standard that we will stick with for a long time now ! |

| 32mm became a standard before BRR/BW were ready for it. I guess that's why they made 33.3mm.. Just to be sure to be part of the game, lol. Anything can happen, cause people don't seem to worried about how stupid their fatass decks look compared to a slim, skateboard-look of a 25mm |

| Here's my take. Imagine using a board over 38mm. It's not gonna feel comfortable and your tricks will look awkward. Fingerboards have pretty much reach the threshold when it comes to how wide they can be and still be comfortable to ride. I don't see anything ever going over 35mm and being sold on the regular. Basically, we're not gonna be fingerboarding on handboards in a couple of year. |
