What happened to fingerboarding guys? It used to be about having fun, meeting new people who enjoyed the same thing as you, and just doing something you love to do. Nowadays all I see is people who sound like a broken record, "My main goal is to get sponsored.", I mean, yeah sponsorships are cool and repping a company you like is cool, but why is it so important to people to get a sponsor? I just can't believe what the scene is becoming honestly. I wish it were more like the ole days when people did this for a hobby and not a job. Not even trying to bash anyone or anything like that, not trying to get supporters or haters either, just stating my opinion. Fingerboarding is about having fun, not getting sponsors and being the best. Everybody is the best technically, because your style is yours. It makes your fingerboarding unique. Try to have some fun! That's all I'm saying.

I don't really know what to say about this subject. I fingerboard most days of the week and I LOVE it (more so than ever in fact!). I usually film by myself and catch up with mates 1-2 times a week and jam with them also. Fingerboarding can be as fun or serious as you want it to be... I think its best to worry less about what others are doing and more about what you are doing and want to do

That's a really good point Jono, I'm just saying back in the day people weren't as worried about getting their name out there as they are now. If that makes sense?

Makes perfect sense dude I guess my point was mostly aimed at those people more-so than your comment I swear by ripping hard and having as much fun as possible

Nothing against you Trent, but I never liked this argument. It's pretty much invalid outside of America and Germany.

Lots of countries rely on the internet because there aren't events. It's not easy to make one and would be pointless to waste all that effort if no one turned up because the scene in that country is too small. Hell it's almost too small in the UK to sustain a decent annual event.

It sucks that forums and the community aspect of them are dying out to instagram, but that seems an evolution of the internet as a whole.

Kerry I know exactly what you mean, I'm in the US, but I live in WV, nobody really "near" me has events. I'm almost positive I'm the ONLY fingerboarder here. lol

true its easy to connect.. Im saying Ive seen to much bullshit on the internet. If you must!!.. use it to connect with others.. but the fun is up to YOU other people cannot make you happy. I have fingerboarded alone since forever lol.
Scenes all over the world are taking off. Its mind blowing. Ive noticed the UK scene is smaller now..for me theirs NO scene at all!! I have ONE friend who comes over a few times a year and not much in common other than fingerboarding.

I know what you mean.. its not just that. Some people get the slightest bit of attention or recognition and BOOM their ego F#%$^ explodes and they think they are some hollywood star/god himself. Americans are the worst with this.

I think it really depends what part of the fingerboarding "scene" you choose to expose yourself to. This forum is super chill when it comes to the hobby, instagram is a nightmare and events I feel are the absolute best place to meet cool people if you can go to them.

if you want to truly enjoy fingerboarding I would stay away from insta lol

Insta really is ruining the scene in a way, but it can be a useful tool to announce things and stocks. Also for some reason it manages to generate tuning companies out of nowhere.

the main problem with instagram is all the hate but there are SO MANY PEOPLE on there and i feel like it definitely exposes fingerboarding and many creative people get a wider audience easier(??)
without instagram, the scene wouldnt be as big as it is now at least ///

lots of kids love to be sponsored, and it's so easy, because all of their friends have a company and a team

This is the main problem with a lot of things in the world today..

I don't know how you can stand fingerboarding alone, it would just get boring unless you have loads of obstacles. I find talking with a small group of friends on skype makes fingerboarding fun for me, the social aspect of fingerboarding is what draws me in.

fingerboarding is still super fun. i went to rendezvous the day before yesterday and it was my first event and first time fingerboarding with someone else. rendezvous was definitley the most fun i've had with fingerboarding, but pursuing a hobby like fingerboarding alone is good enough for me

Same here (minus the wife and kids). I work fulltime and have tons of other commitments and obligations. I use fingerboarding as a way to unwind and just have some fun.

I don't know anyone else who fingerboards, if I did, I would probably sesh with them too. Either way, I have no problem just listening to music and fingerboarding after a long day of work
