| Yeeeeaaaaah. Specs: Length: 100mm Width: 32mm Concave: medium/deep Kicks: medium Mold style: realistic ( curved not defined) Kick style: realistic (tail shorter than nose)
Packaging and First Impressions: As you all know, Blackriver and Berlinwood always go the extra mile with packaging. It came in the well printed box with a window that lets you inspect the deck. Inside were the deck, a piece of riptape and 5 assorted stickers. Everything was done as professional as possible, which is what Berlinwood is known for. The deck was sitting in the little plastic shape holder without any marks or dents. 10/10
Craftsmanship: Again, Im sure you all know about this. Being such a high profile company everything was done to the highest degree. Sanding was amazing, no bumps or deformities. The graphic was slightly off-center, about 2mm so really not anything to go tits-up about. The berlinwood stamp on top was placed a tad low near the bolts, so i couldnt put a cut in my tape or you would see the ink which is a tad unsightly. maybe something for Berlinwood to consider. The single lacquer coat was done to perfection to add shine and protection but still accomodate a real wear graphic. The graphic was about 2mm off-center, but seeing as its nearly all worn off that doesnt matter.
Now, its the plies I want to talk about. Berlinwood has stepped up their game so far when it comes to unique ply designs. I remember the old BW classic molds having just natural plies and maybe a black one in the middle if you were lucky. Now, theyve gone all out using exotic woods and wacky colors to add some style when your graphic wears out. My ply order went (top to bottom): Purple Birds Eye Maple Orange Green Orange Purple Birds eye w graphic over it.
Absolutely insane. Combined with the White Blackriver logo graphic it looks wonderful. Great Job on the plies. 9/10
Performance: This is where things get tricky, because this all depends on the rider. The concave is much deeper than the regular Berlinwood, because they extended the width. As well, the deck is slightly heavier, and Berlinwoods are already heavy decks. Also, wide decks aren't for everyone. But for me, this deck is absolutely perfect, seeing as these are all my preference. On to the more general performance. The pop on this deck, just as all Berlinwoods, is superb. The deck does not rattle when you pop it, which is a sign of quality wood and craftsmanship. It stays solid and balanced which is great for control. Tricks flip cleanly and landing on a rail doesnt cause an annoying vibration throughout the deck. very solid. Flipping tricks is a bit different however. Because the deck is wider, and subsequently heavier, flip tricks take a bit more effort. You really have to put some spin on it to get it moving, but i find this better than having a thin light deck that overspins and often looks silly doing quad kickflip 720s when you wanted to do a tre flip. Because tricks flip slower, tech and style are improved greatly. Also, due to popular belief, the real wear graphic, and the single lacquer coat ply underneath slide very well. Some have the impression that it takes more effort to slide it because of less lacquer, and although yes this is true, sliding is still easy and controlled. My only gripe about this deck is that, once again, the back tail is just slightly too short. I sometimes find myself popping off of my back finger instead of the tail. Increasing the length even one or two mm would make an awesome difference, but i have learned to get used to the change and it hasnt been a problem since. Other than that, this deck is the best ive used. More controllable than a yellowood, wider than a classic bw, and deeper concave and longer than my old blosom (rest in peace) make it ideal for me. 9/10
Overall: 9.25/10
My absolute favourite deck as of now.
Pictures will be up soon.
If ive missed anything, ask the question and ill answer.
Cheers

| Interesting review. I am planing to buy one soon. Berlinwoods have gotten soggy. I bought one in September. It was super fat and soggy. A month later my friend ordered it and recived it by the end of the month. It had lots of pop and it's still an amazingly good deck.
Did anyone here have the same problem. A soggy berlinwood...?

| Kk let's steer the conversation back to the review.
Although Melvin and his hilarious antics continue to be joked about (as well as James' lady friend's fat and soggy sausage.) we should probably not bomb a thread with them.
^__^ Just a thought. |
