@Ross I honestly don't get the appeal of 30.5mm decks. Until recently, 30.5mm is directly half way between the 2 standard widths of 29mm and 32mm trucks that are widely available. If they trucks don't come close to the deck, the board will ride weird.
hmmm. all opinions taken
i think the 'standard' these days is at least 30mm though. (for decks) anything under that is just too skinny by today's standards. of course you will have your select few sticking to thinner decks, but times change. and the future standard will be 32mm IMO.
i think theirs a way to go yet though....30+ decks will all have their place as the amount of fingerboarders 'outside' the scene will stick to 30mmish...as they are a standard with china wide trucks
also its a smart move by BRR. now everyone needs wide trucks. clever move indeed. but one for the better i think.
what you say about the woodywoods is true also, i know BRT's are 28mm width but once you get the wheels on your around the 30mm width.....also there are the micro washers which Ive been using for time....
also it goes to how you like your setup...not everyone likes their wheels to be exactly at the edge of the board...some like the hangars slightly over, or slightly under or in between. i think 30.5 is a good medium....just look at every other company making decks in 30.5mm these days....but yeah its all preference....im already working on the future boards, and i dont think anything under 30.5mm will have its place....come to think of it i think 30.5mm wont be produced much either.... but everyone is different i guess.
also ive been watching your close up advert/avatar in your sig for a bit now, i swear i can see close up gen 5 appear in their almost subliminal.
and Danny, TBH i dont really know??? when i made 30.5mm way back when, i did it to be different and to make a slightly wider deck than the 29/30mm 'norm'...but i think 30.5mm was a good width and still is. (for decks)
on another note, i also guess to which camp you belong too. like i said its a very clever move by BRR. and you know everyone is gonna want a wide BW and wide BRTs....but what about the YW/Ys camp for example? i dont know what they have in the pipeline, but im sure 30mm will always be around.....for a couple years yet.....
woodywoods fvckers would take over, they would sell by the bucket load....but if you can get me a set or 3 be my guest ...or put the link up. Well I hate to spam up this thread with discussion about the future of fingerboards rather than the setups posted in the thread so firstly, I would like to say that the fingersized sticker on that deck is awesome, fbrob. I also like the wear on that Pornstorm setup. Billy, your setup looks fresh and so clean, I could eat fingerboard sized food off it. Thanks, callum about your comments on my setup. Now then Ross you! Yeah, it is true that Winklers do hang over the axles of BRTs which is good (in my opinion). I also forgot that you are one of the people (as well as me) that love microwashers. The problem is that microwashers aren't as widely available as I would hope so I don't really consider this a standard part of a setup and hence, most people probably won't enjoy their benefits. (Kerry, if you are reading this, please stock a shitload of microwashers at a reasonable price) I agree that the transition for ~32mm setups being the standard is already under way. I would personally love a 32mm setup, maybe with a 32.5 or 33mm deck. I've been loving my 33.5mm Soma Poolshape with really old 33mm X-Concepts longboard trucks. As for Y's current status on the lack of extra-wide (by my standard anyway) decks and trucks, I think they will still have a decent reputation for their great products. As well as BRT Wides and Woodywood Fvcker trucks, I would also like to remind you that there are 32mm TD longboard trucks that are widely available and also the new 2012 longboards with Indy branded trucks, pivot cups, soft bushings, conical washers, a really great look and are supposedly 33mm. The Woodywood link is here: http://woodywoodfvcker.com/They were supposedly having a stock around now but I've checked many times in the last week and haven't noticed anything. I do remember their first stock and it went quite fast so maybe I missed it. I do want to get one from this stock though. I think they will also have at least one new colour. I've not contacted Damien from Close Up for a few weeks now as I don't want to bother him. He told me he gets so many emails every day so I don't wanna hassle him even more with useless emails as I've already said the main points and the only thing left is to ask him when I will get my Close Up G5. Instead of direct contact, I have become an e-stalker of Damien. I watch many different sites. I found the Fingerboard France interview a day after it was posted and Google Translated/posted it here. I have also read things on the French forum discussing the G5. Damien also replies to comments on the Close Up webstore and has given hints about the G5 too. In short, the currently released details are that the G5s will be out this month, 29mm wide decks with 2 different shapes. There's also a few other interesting things that I am not sure if I can talk about. |
