I need some tips and advice on what i should do to make my video better. Examples would be great and thanks for all that reply. :!:

First off, don't make a 'Sponsor Me' video, please. Just film your fingerboarding and make a mini/edit. Put the clips together with some music and put it on YouTube or something. Keep making videos like that until a sponsor finds you.

my advice is dont, and just enjoy fingerboarding. you'll progress faster if you ignore what unlegit tiny youtube companies say, and realise maybe you're not at sponsor level yet. and that everyoen cant be sponsored. there's a fuck load more to fingerboarding than sponsors, so just go fingerboard

Kerry, do you know what "unlegit tiny youtube company" he's making the video for? He didn't state it in the post, so I was just curious.

Back on topic. Just have FUN. When you make your video, be less concerned with incredible flip tricks into grind on a desk in your room, and be more concerned with sick spots, originality, creativity, and a unique style. Bring some friends with you. Let me tell you, I'm not very good, but I've landed some amazing stuff while I was introducing myself to new obstacles and having a fun time. I've also tried setting up a camera and landing the same trick back to back to back to back... to back... to back.... to back. With much less success. Positive attitude usually helps and satisfaction usually gives the best results.

You ever seen the 999,999,999,999,9999 fingerboard videos that consist of people tricking in their homes in the same few spots over and over and over again? It's boring. Don't do that. I don't care if people are good or not. When I see that much of a lack in creativity from a fingerboarder, I lose the majority of my interest. I thought this was common sense to a lot of people other than those I saw on youtube, but after I saw the flatface DVD with some of the best fingerboarders in the world, I was rather disappointed. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying any of them are bad. They'd all whoop my ass in a heartbeat. But the majority of them lacked creativity and improvisation that a lot of fingerboarders long to see from the pros the most.

Again, this should be all common sense stuff. It's mostly a matter of understanding that it can be amazing, and actually getting out there and making it better. Don't send in a tryout video that looks exactly like all the others this company has probably already seen, or you're not going to blow anyone's mind. Give them something fresh. In this case, I shall disagree with Kerry. There's no harm in making a tryout video, unless it's for a dodgy company. Opportunities in fingerboarding aren't easy so take them if you can. As it turned out, I never needed to try out to get a sponsor so Kerry's point is valid too.

Tips for a good try out video:
1. COMMON SENSE - do what should be common sense
2. Take a look at a few other tryout videos and welcome videos - welcome videos are obviously videos by people who were sponsored so you can see what they have done to get where they have. Other tryout videos let you gauge what sort of video you want to aim for.
3. Use a good camera - Make sure the settings on it don't ruin the video, choose a suitable format. Most people use a HD camera although I managed to get sponsored with just a SD camera.
4. Use good camera angles - Make sure each angle has the obstacles, board and hand in good view. Vary the angles if you intend to use the same obstacle for a few tricks.
5. Use a fisheye - The way skateboarding and fingerboarding work, fisheyes are good for easily capturing a trick in the frame but also distorting the picture to make some things look bigger. Don't use it for every shot though.
6. Have good editing - I am shit at editing but I do try to make sure all the tricks are clear, choose the order of tricks wisely.
7. Don't be afraid to re-do/leave out tricks - If a trick you landed is a bit sketchy, you're not going to want it in a try out video, leave it out or do it again.
8. If it's a tryout vid, use the product from the company you are trying out for. Companies want to see you able to use them, enjoy them and promote them.
9. Try to avoid repeating tricks - Vary the tricks you do and keep it all fresh and sick.
10. Do different shit to everyone else. I'm quite proud of my freestyle tricks but I can still do street tricks pretty well. Have a good mix of tricks that other people can do and tricks that only you can do.
11. Use different obstacles to people - BRR is pretty standard so I would also suggest using other things.
12. Choose a song that suits the style of the video.
13. Title it so that it is a dedicated video for the one company you are trying out for to make it personal, rather than a generic tryout. Also have an appropriate description.
14. Don't directly copy someone's style, make your own style.
15. Have fun - there's no point making it if you aren't having fun.

xi makes a very valid post, as always. But there are soo many pointless tiny youtube companies these days that either just sell pivot cups, or sell china products, or even moreso nothing at all. those were who I was refering too as a generality. I had no idea who he meant.

I just asked if kerry knew what company the video was for.. I never assumed that he didn't, which is why I asked first. It was a pretty fair question lol.. And I agree, he does have a point. Half the companies on youtube are shit, but that doesn't mean they're ALL shit, which was why I asked that question to begin with. If you don't have a GOOD company wanting to see a tryout vid, then yes, it's probably a better idea not to worry about videos and sponsorships so that you can just have fun, just as Kerry said. But if the company is good, then a tryout video is worth it if that's what you wanna do.

And I do apologize for bumping this post, Kerry. I did read the rules when I first joined, but I didn't look at the date on the thread first like I was supposed to. I never have used forums much, so I'm still getting the hang of things. xD

I already apologized for this, man. :/ Yes, I know how to read time and date, but the topic was toward the top of the list and I didn't think about checking the date first (I'm new to using forums). I just don't want everyone thinking that I was breaking a rule intentionally to be an asshole or anything, because those weren't my intentions. Give me time to get the hang of things. Only other forum I was on (not fingerboarding) didn't have this rule. So, even though I was aware of this rule beforehand, I'm not very used to checking dates. But it won't happen again.

Make sure this companies worth it, make sure you actually like their product and have the time and dedication to represent your sponsor, and have fun and make an incredible video!

For reals though... If you are whoring yourself for a sponsorship you are doing it wrong.

I've never seen any other scene actually think it's okay to make sponsor-me videos as much as the fingerboarding scene.
